Bar Amá

Did someone say Vegan Super Nachos? Happy hour specials happen every night during "Super Nacho Hour" at this Downtown L.A. fave, and while it's known for their crispy pork belly, the Tex-Mex menu from Chef Josef Centeno also includes well-marked veggie options for every meal. A nice selection of non-alcoholic drinks features fresh juices, while flights of tequila and mezcal accompany their standards.

Viet-nom-nom Wrap at Beelman's | Instagram by @veganwave

The formerly British Downtown L.A. pub was recently revamped into a plant-based one with an inspired Asian-Latin fusion menu. Crispy garbanzo beans, garlic-loaded Stinkin’ Fries or smoky Wonton Mee Bites are perfect for noshing while the Buddha Bowl or Viet-nom-nom Wrap make for a nice light dinner. A couple of Impossible Burger variations are available, as well.

Mohawk Bend

The Silver Lake staple offers an extensive happy hour menu featuring the best vegan pizza in town, using specialty ingredients like in-house cashew parmesan, Kite Hill vegan ricotta and Follow Your Heart vegan mozzarella. The popular Angry Vegan pizza is made with tomato sauce, almond ricotta, vegan mozzarella, fresh serrano chilies, Calabrian chilies, cashew parmesan, chili oil, and oregano. Enjoy Buffalo-Style Cauliflower with vegan "bleu cheese" outside by the fire while sampling from 72 taps of craft beer, 6 stainless steel wine taps, and other artisanal spirits from small-scale breweries, wineries, and distilleries. The cavernous former Vaudeville theatre offers plenty of space for larger parties, too.

The Stalking Horse Brewery & Freehouse

The British-style Westside pub offers thoughtful vegan renditions of French toast, bread pudding, Welsh rarebit, root salad, savory pies, Cornish pasties and more. Pat's Pie is made with chopped vegan steak, onions, peppers, mushrooms and rarebit cheese sauce. Hearty servings, veg-smart waitstaff, a well-stocked bar and charming outdoor patio might lure you in for brunch and bring you back for dinner, again and again. Tony's Darts Away

Pioneers in the vegan pub game, this beloved Burbank bar set the precedent years ago with their quality vegan-heavy menu. Bonus points for their efforts to be “a zero waste bar and almost zero waste kitchen.” California craft beers pair with the ever-popular Disco Fries (make it a “Disco Inferno” with pickled jalapenos), chilaquiles, or homemade kettle chips. The outrageous Bulls-Eye Burger features two Impossible Burger patties smashed between a donut croissant bun with vegan bacon, vegan provolone, BBQ sauce and frizzled onions. Look for weekly and seasonal specials.

Trejo's Cantina - Hollywood

Trejo’s Cantina is a lively Hollywood sports bar featuring large-screen TVs and taco Tuesday specials starring jackfruit, cauliflower and ‘mexi-falafel’ as solid options for vegans, as well as the street corn (minus chipotle cream), street beans and escabache (always vegan here). Hit up the new Trejo's Coffee & Donuts location for a Vegan Coco Loco to satisfy that sweet tooth afterward.

Verdugo Bar

This Glassell Park bar itself is not a vegan one, but The Church of Seitan takes over every third Sunday of the month, transforming the back patio into "Vegan Sunday Service" - a party with vegan tacos, nachos and tortas by Plant Food for People; and baked goods made by a rotating roster of vendors. A DJ brings the noise while various sponsors donate vegan prizes for the bingo winners.
