Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous - Geffen Playhouse (June 10 - July 12)
Angry, Raucous and Shamelessly Gorgeous, a new comedy from Award-winning playwright Pearl Cleage and directed by Tony-nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson, makes its Los Angeles premiere on June 10 at Geffen Playhouse, where it will run through July 12.
FIFA Fan Festival - Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (June 11 -14)
Celebrate the opening week of FIFA World Cup at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum between June 11 and 14, where FIFA Fan Festival will bring together folks for music, culture, food and, of course, soccer. Featured matches for FIFA Fan Fest include Mexico vs. South Africa (June 11), Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina (June 12), USA vs. Paraguay (June 12), Brazil vs. Morocco (June 13), Haiti vs. Scotland (June 13), Germany vs. Curacao (June 14) and Netherlands vs. Japan (June 14).
LA Galaxy Soccer Celebration (June 11 - 27)
Gather with fans to watch Group Stage live matches, see Galaxy players and alumni in person and seek out limited edition merch and giveaways at LA Galaxy Soccer Celebration. The first of three LA Galaxy activations takes place in Long Beach between June 11 and 27.
USA vs. Paraguay - Los Angeles Stadium (June 12)
USA plays its first game of the FIFA World Cup at Los Angeles Stadium (aka SoFi Stadium) against Paraguay on Friday, June 12, at 6 p.m.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes/Monkey Business - Academy Museum (June 12)
With Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon opening at the Academy Museum on May 31, you can expect plenty of her movies screening through June. Amongst them: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which plays alongside Monkey Business. Catch the double feature on Friday, June 12.
The Punk Singer - Skirball Cultural Center (June 12)
Skirball Cultral Center screens The Punk Singer, the 2013 documentary on Kathleen Hanna (Bikini Kill, Le Tigre), outdoors on the evening of June 12. Hanna herself will be on hand for a post-film talk and Alison Wolfe (Bratmobile) will be DJing beforehand. Early arrival is suggested, particularly if you want to check out Skirball’s current exhibition Outcasts, Outsiders, Rebels + Weirdos: Punk Culture 1976 - 86.
KCRW Summer Nights - La Brea Tar Pits (June 12)
In early July, La Brea Tar Pits will close for a two-year renovation project. If you want stop by the LA icon before then, make plans to attend KCRW Summer Nights on Friday, June 12. The free, all-ages event includes after-hours access to the museum and tunes spun by DJs Francesca Harding and Novena Carmel. Food and drinks will be available via the museum bar and local food trucks.
James Blake - Greek Theatre (June 12)
With a new album, Trying Times, out now, English singer James Blake plays the Greek Theatre on Friday, June 12.
Our Heavenly Bodies - Mount Wilson Observatory (June 13)
Is there a site more fitting to screen a century old film about the cosmos than Mount Wilson Observatory? Your chance to see 1925 silent film Our Heavenly Bodies, accompanied by a live score, in the auditorium of this historic observatory is Saturday, June 13. The film screening is at 3 p.m., but plan to arrive early to tour the facilities and picnic on the grounds.
The Birdcage - Autry Museum of the West (June 13)
Street Food Cinema, Autry Museum of the West and LA Pride team up for a 30th anniversary screening The Birdcage on Saturday, June 13. The dog-friendly screening includes a pre-show party with surprises to be announced. Date night packages are also available for the event.
Hunx and His Punx - Getty Center (June 13)
Hunx and His Punx make the kind of garage rock you might expect to hear in a John Waters movie. They’re retro, yet contemporary and cheeky, yet serious. The group, whose members include artist Seth Bogart and Shannon Shaw of Shannon and the Clams, play Getty Center as part of the museum’s Off the 405 concert series on Saturday, June 13. Admission is free, but you will need to reserve tickets.
Grand Performances 40th Anniversary - California Plaza (June 13)
Grand Performances celebrates their 40th anniversary at California Plaza on Saturday, June 13, with performances from Jungle Fire and Healing Gems, as well as Liza Richardson in the DJ booth.
Puppets and Pride - Academy Museum (June 13)
Celebrate Puppets and Pride with Bob Baker Marionette Theatre and the Academy Museum Education Team on Saturday, June 13. The special event at the Academy Museum includes a musical marionette show that celebrates LGBTQ+ history and themes of love, self-acceptance and community. The show is free with the price of museum admission and puppeteer meet-and-greets will take place before the 2:30 p.m. performance. Can’t make it on June 13? Puppets and Pride happens again on Saturday, June 20.
Miles Davis: A Century of Cool - Musichead Gallery (Through June 13)
Musichead Gallery celebrates the jazz legend in Miles Davis: A Century of Cool, on view now through June 13. The exhibition brings together a collection of photos that will take viewers from his years as a young musician playing alongside Charlie Parker through his six-decade career. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Blue Note Jazz Festival - Hollywood Bowl (June 13 - 14)
Start the summer with jazz, funk and R&B when the Blue Note Jazz Festival returns to Hollywood Bowl on June 13 and 14. Wyclef Jean and R + R = Now headline for Saturday’s event. Sunday’s lineup includes Patti LaBelle, Gregory Porter, Samara Joy and more. Arsenio hall hosts both days of the festival.
Shakira - Intuit Dome (June 13 - 14)
