Dance Camera West - Multiple Venues (Jan. 22 - Jan. 25)
Revered film festival Dance Camera West puts the spotlight on dance films between Thursday, January 22 and Sunday, January 25. With events held at Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz in West L.A., Colburn’s Zipper Hall downtown and Los Feliz’s Philosophical Research Society, the festival includes more than 40 films, including works that will be making their premieres. Both single event tickets and festival passes are available.
Austra - The Roxy (Jan. 23)
Canadian synthpop outfit Austra closed out last year with the fantastic, dance floor-friendly album, Chin Up Buttercup. The corresponding tour hits Los Angeles on Friday, January 23, at The Roxy.
Dan Deacon - Teragram Ballroom (Jan. 23)
Dan Deacon, the electronic musician and composer who has scored films like Venom: The Last Dance and TV series Task, plays Teragram Ballroom on Friday, January 23.
Welcome to Night Vale - The Regent (Jan. 23)
Welcome to Night Vale, the long-running podcast that brings eerie and mysterious updates from a fiction desert town, are on the road with a new, stand alone show, “Murder Night in Blood Forest.” Hear the mystery unfold live at The Regent on Friday, January 23.
David Lynch Marathon - Gardena Cinema (Jan. 24)
Gardena Cinema celebrates David Lynch's 80th birthday with a marathon that will take fans from the early afternoon through late night. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and include multiple episodes of Twin Peaks, plus Fire Walk with Me and Blue Velvet. Both single screening and day passes are available.
Twice - Kia Forum (Jan. 21-22, 24-25)
K-pop stars Twice begin their four-night stint at Kia Forum on Wednesday, January 21. The hit-making girl group will continue their This Is For World Tour on Thursday, January 22, and will return to Kia Forum for shows on Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25.
Mind Against - Reframe Studios (Jan. 24)
Berlin-based DJ/production duo Mind Against bring their blend of techno and house to Los Angeles when they headline Reframe Studios on Saturday, January 24. Opening the night is Enamour.
Ground Control: Abortion Access Benefit - Lodge Room (Jan. 24)
Ground Control Touring’s fourth annual Abortion Access Benefit show is Saturday, January 24, at Lodge Room with all proceeds going to reproductive justice nonprofit Noise for Now. This year’s lineup includes Diners, Emory, DJ Harmony Dividad, Kid Sistr, Mind’s Eye, Shannon Shaw and Starling, with podcasters Syd and Olivia hosting the night.
Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song w/Mario Van Peebles - Los Feliz Theatre (Jan. 24)
Actor and filmmaker Mario Van Peebles will be on hand at Los Feliz Theatre on Saturday, January 4, to introduce the 55th anniversary screening of his landmark independent film Sweet Sweetback’s Baadasssss Song. Show starts at 4 p.m.
The Zen of Alan and Zelda - Philosophical Research Society (Jan. 24)
Between the late 1960s and early 1970s, philosopher Alan Watts and filmmaker Elda Hartley collaborated on five short films. Today, these works are rarely screened, but you can catch them on Saturday, January 24, at Philosophical Research Society, as well the 1973 documentary Meditation: Yoga, Tai Chi and Other Spiritual Trips.
Steven Brown - Zebulon (Jan. 25)
Steven Brown, who co-founded the seminal synth punk band Tuxedomoon, has a new album, In This Very World, out in February. Before that, though, you can catch him live at Zebulon. He’ll headline on Sunday, January 25, with Coffin Prick and Cate Kennan opening the show.
