With Halloween falling on a Thursday this year, you can expect a week jam-packed with spooky happenings, from horror-themed drag nights to costume parties driven by local DJs and bands. That’s in addition to the tours coming through town this week, like LCD Soundsystem’s LA residency, which begins on Halloween at The Shrine; and David Gilmour’s three-night stint at the Hollywood Bowl, which ends on the same night. Meanwhile, November begins with King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard at Kia Forum on Friday night. Substance Festival brings together darkwave fan faves like Cold Cave and Ultra Sunn on Saturday November 2 and Rex Orange County begins a five-night stretch of shows at The Orpheum on Sunday, November 3. Orville Peck - Hollywood Palladium (Oct. 28)



After postponing his LA show due to losing his voice, Orville Peck brings his Stampede tour to the Hollywood Palladium this week. Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates. Plus, there are still tickets available to see the country singer, whose latest album includes collaborations with everyone from Willie Nelson to Beck to Kylie Minogue, on Monday, October 28. Exposure Mondays - The OffBeat (Oct. 28)



The OffBeat’s weekly drag party, Exposure Mondays, kicked off October with a bewitching performance from former Drag Race contestant April Carrion and will be taking on a different spooky theme every week this month. The long-running event with DJ Tank.Boy on the decks and a revolving cast of on-stage performers, brings in a lively crowd to start the week. Last August, The Softies released their first album in 24 years, and the lovely, harmony-driven indie pop on The Bed I Made plays as if little time has passed since Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia last recorded together. Multi-disciplinary performance art extravaganza 21 & Over comes to its conclusion at Catch One on Tuesday, October 29 with a night hosted by local favorite Dynasty Handbag and with music direction from acclaimed filmmaker Alima Lee. Artists featured in the finale are Rocio Boliver, Nao Bustamante, Patrisse Cullors, Hugo Hopping and Keioui Keijaun Thomas. Tickets at Dice.

Sound’s week of Halloween parties kicks off on Tuesday night with a special edition of Space Yacht headlined by Justin Martin. The San Francisco-based DJ, known for his many releases with Dirtybird Records, as well as his own label What to Do…, returns to Space Yacht’s Halloween blowout for the second year in a row, so expect a hyped crowd. In late September, Xiu Xiu released the gorgeous, noisy album 13” Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips. The now Berlin-based outfit brings the U.S. leg of their current world tour to a close on Wednesday, October 30 at Highland Park’s Lodge Room. The all-ages show opens with performances from Katie Alice Greer and Patrick Shiroishi.

Måneskin co-founder Victoria De Angelis, often known by just her first name, launched her solo career with a DJ tour this year, followed by the bass single “Get Up Bitch! shake ya ass,” a collaboration with Brazilian pop star Anitta. Devil’s Drag Night - The Mermaid (Oct. 30)



With “Siren’s Deadly Call” as the theme, and a special cocktail menu to raise funds for Los Angeles Bat Rescue, underwater-themed Little Tokyo bar The Mermaid is hosting spooky events throughout October. The night before Halloween, though, is Devil’s Drag Night, which will include DJs, bingo and a costume contest. There’s no cover and the party goes until 1am.

Celebrate Halloween with David Gilmour when the rock icon plays the final night of his three-gig stretch at the Hollywood Bowl. Tuesday and Wednesday night’s shows have already sold out and, with a set that includes both music from new album, Luck and Strange, plus Pink Floyd classics, you’ll want to get your tickets ASAP for this one.

Catch the dance rock outfit behind ‘00s indie club hits like “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” and “Dance Yrself Clean” on the spookiest night of the year when LCD Soundsystem kicks off its LA residency with a Halloween show at Shrine Expo Hall. This is the first of four nights that James Murphy and his band will play at the historic LA venue. After the holiday weekend gigs, they’ll move to the Hollywood Palladium for four more shows between November 7 and 10. Tickets at AXS.

They’ll headline the night, which will include sets from like-minded bands Marguerite, Dead By Sunday, Sugarhead. Local party crew Libre heads to Airliner in Lincoln Heights on Halloween for Scareliner, a special event headlined by DJ Nu-Mark. One of LA’s best DJs, Nu-Mark is known for his affiliation with hip-hop group Jurassic 5, as well as his clever, party rockin’ sets around town. Costumes or a fancy dress are required if you plan to spend Halloween at Expression Halloween, taking place at Yamashiro, the 110-year-old mansion-turned-restaurant with pan-Asian architecture and a stunning hilltop view of Los Angeles. Beyond the intriguing, historic space, the party will bring together DJs Heidi Lawden, Hint of Lavender, Rick Trainor and Masha Mar. Día de los Muertos with Dudamel - Walt Disney Concert Hall (Nov. 1)



The LA Phil celebrates Día de los Muertos on November 1 with a night of Latin American music led by Gustavo Dudamel. Included in this performance will be Villa-Lobos Chôros N. 10, “Rasga o Coraçāo,” Gabriela Ortiz Yanga and Revueltas La Noche de los Mayas. Before the concert, stop by Gloria Molina Grand Park to see the 19 altars on display for Día de los Muertos, which were made by both artists and community groups and are united in the theme “Finding Peace Through Memories and Hope for the Future.”

The shockingly prolific Australian band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released Flight b741, their 26th album in 14 years, in August. Steeped in the sounds of early 1970s psychedelic rock, the album is a treat, but King Gizzard is as eclectic as they are prolific, so you won’t really know what to expect when these live favorites hit the Kia Forum on November 1. Irish rock band Inhaler are back in North America for another tour since the release of their sophomore album, Cuts & Bruises, was released last year. Disco Tehran, the global music party founded by Iranian artists Arya Ghavamian and Mani Nilchiani, began in New York in 2018 and now travels internationally. Substance Festival returns on Saturday, November 2 with a lineup that’s stacked with darkwave, post-punk and synthpop. Cold Cave, Black Marble, Ultra Sunn, Kontravoid, SRSQ and Sacred Skin are just a few of the artists who will turn up on stage at this all-ages event that offers a little bit of everything for those who musical tastes lean towards the dark and moody. KNTXT, the label founded by Belgian DJ/producer Charlotte De Witte, and Factory 93, Insomniac’s brand that focuses on house and techno, join forces on November 2 for a special event at Downtown LA venue City Market Social House. Thanks to his old band, Oingo Boingo, and work scoring films like Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, Danny Elfman is often associated with Halloween. So, it’s fitting that he’ll be playing the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, November 2. Equally fitting is that Johnny Jewel, formerly of Chromatics, and his current project, Desire, will be opening the night.
