High-end hotel brands are partnering with major developers to bring even more iconic hotels to Los Angeles, which continues to enjoy one of the highest occupancy rates in the country. AC by Marriott, Proper, Hoxton, Edition and Godfrey are among the brands that have either recently made their local debuts or are preparing to do so. More than 7,000 rooms are under construction in the Los Angeles area, while another 5,500 rooms are in the final stages of planning. Read on to check out where to check in next in Los Angeles.

Hotels Recently Opened

Located in the heart of Silver Lake, the new Silver Lake Pool & Inn features an elevated pool deck, 54 oversized guest rooms and suites and Marco Polo, a coastal Italian inspired outdoor restaurant and bar opening November 17. The property is run by the company behind Palihotels.

London-based chainlet the Hoxton arrived in Los Angeles in October 2019 with the redevelopment of the Los Angeles Railway Building in DTLA. The 10-story Beaux Arts property on Broadway features 172 rooms and two restaurants from the acclaimed Sunday Hospitality - the all-day Sibling Rival and the rooftop Mediterranean-inspired Pilot.

Soho House, which offers 23 membership-only luxury lodging facilities worldwide, opened its Soho Warehouse to Founder members in September 2019 and to Every House members and their guests in October. Located on Santa Fe Street in the Downtown LA Arts District, the hotel was redeveloped out of a 100-year-old building that previously served as a rehearsal space and recording studio for musicians. Soho Warehouse has 48 rooms and serves global Soho House favorites in the House Kitchen, Mediterranean-Italian in the outdoor House Garden, and poolside favorites on the rooftop.

The first West Coast property under Marriott International and Ian Schrager’s EDITION lifestyle brand opened on the famed Sunset Strip in August 2019. Located at Sunset Boulevard and Doheny Drive in West Hollywood, the hotel features 190 rooms (including 48 suites and two penthouses) and 20 luxury residences. The hotel also boasts a rooftop pool, signature restaurant, basement club and a six-treatment-room spa.

Marriott International’s AC Hotels brand entered the Los Angeles International Airport area in July 2019 with the debut of the AC Hotel Los Angeles South Bay. Conveniently located in El Segundo, the six-story, 180-room hotel features AC Kitchen & Lounge and the rooftop restaurant and bar, FLORA.

Proper Hotels, the new brand headed by former Viceroy Hotels chief Brad Korzen, made its Southern California debut in June 2019 with the Santa Monica Proper. The 271-room hotel was redeveloped out of a historic 1928 structure and an adjacent new building at Wilshire Boulevard and 7th Street. Helmed by Sqirl’s Jessica Koslow and Gabriela Camara (Contramar, Cala), the hotel’s on-site restaurant Onda serves seafood of the Pacific that showcases ingredients from Mexico and LA farmers markets.

The partnership behind Los Feliz’s Hotel Covell opened the nine-room Firehouse Hotel in a 92-year-old former Arts District fire station in April 2019. The new hotel includes a 100-seat restaurant.

The AC Hotels by Marriott brand made its Los Angeles debut in January 2019 with the AC Hotel Beverly Hills. Located in the historic Miracle Mile district, the hotel is redeveloped out of a 1950s-era office building and has 142 rooms.

In January 2019, local luxury-boutique hotelier Palihotels opened its 49-room downtown Culver City property in a 1920s-era building that originally served as a boarding house. The hotel features French restaurant Simonette.

Hotels Coming Soon

Proper Hotels will open a second Southern California property at the site of the former Case Hotel later this winter. The 13-story Downtown LA hotel, which was built in 1924, will have 151 rooms as well as a rooftop pool and two restaurants overseen by James Beard Award-winning duo, Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne (a.o.c., Lucques, Tavern).

Hotel Mariposa, a new-build upscale-boutique hotel, will open in Sherman Oaks in the fall with 94 rooms. The property, which will be operated by the Good Nite Inns operators, will have an eco-conscious, wellness emphasis.

Marriott International’s Aloft lifestyle brand will enter Glendale in November with a 90-room new-build hotel on Brand Boulevard.

AccorHotels’ Fairmont badge will take over the landmark Century Plaza hotel in Century City when the property is redeveloped. Scheduled to open next April, the Fairmont Century Plaza will have 394 rooms and 63 luxury residences, down from the hotel’s 726 rooms when it shuttered in 2016. The project will also have 290 luxury residences in the project’s two new 46-story towers.

The Thompson Hotels lifestyle brand, which previously operated the Hollywood Roosevelt and is owned by Hyatt, will return to the area in April 2020 with a new-build property on Wilcox Avenue between Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. The 200-room hotel, to be built by Dream Hollywood developer Relevant Group, will have a rooftop deck with a pool.

The Godfrey Hotel lifestyle chainlet, which has properties in Chicago and Boston, will open a property on Hollywood’s Cahuenga Corridor near Sunset Boulevard in early 2020. The hotel will have 220 rooms as well as four bars and a gastropub/steakhouse called About Last Knife.

Hilton will bring its Hampton Inn & Suites brand to Koreatown’s West 3rd Street in late 2020 with a 171-room hotel.

Pendry, the Montage Hotels & Resorts offshoot brand that debuted in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in February 2017, will make its Los Angeles-area entry in 2020 when the modern-luxury hotel is built at the Sunset Strip site formerly occupied by House of Blues. The Pendry West Hollywood will have 149 rooms, while the project will also include 40 luxury condominiums, a restaurant, a live-entertainment venue and a bowling alley.

An offshoot of Thompson Hotels that specializes in micro-suites, Tommie Hotels, which is owned by Hyatt, will make its worldwide debut near Hollywood’s Cahuenga Corridor in August 2020. Thompson Hollywood developer Relevant Group will build the 212-room property.

Oceanwide Plaza, the mixed-use project that will be built adjacent to STAPLES Center and L.A. LIVE, will include L.A.'s first hotel under the Park Hyatt luxury badge. Slated to open in 2021, the Park Hyatt Los Angeles will have 184 rooms, including 34 suites, and will be adjacent to a retail center called The Collection at Oceanwide Plaza.

Hyatt’s Hyatt Centric lifestyle brand, which made its Southern California debut in Long Beach in 2016, will enter the city of Los Angeles with a Koreatown property in 2021. The 6th Street project will have 192 rooms as well as 122 Hyatt Centric-branded residences and ground-floor retail.

The Fig + Pico Conference Center multi-hotel project in Downtown Los Angeles is slated to include L.A.'s first hotel under Marriott International’s Moxy brand when it opens in 2022. The project’s three hotels, which will also include an AC Hotel and a Hilton Garden Inn, will total more than 1,100 rooms.
