The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage, Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center

The program opens with Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" as a tribute to those affected by the recent L.A. fires, our fire fighters, first responders, service organizations, volunteers, and all who are helping our local communities recover. This concert is dedicated to them.

The second piece, "Bacchanale" from the opera Samson and Delilah by Saint-Saëns, is an energetic and percussive dance depicting a wild and raucous victory party.

"Potentia", commissioned by Orchestra Santa Monica, is a collaboration between Anne Carmack, poet laureate of Santa Monica and California based composer Jason Anthony Gomez. This innovative work includes song and narration, performed by award-winning baritone Jubilant Sykes.

The program concludes with the fascinating and evocative "Enigma Variations". Each of the 14 variations represents the character of a friend or acquaintance, with Elgar’s music based upon an overarching mystery theme.
