The pandemic kept Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s spectacular Whale Fiesta at bay for two years, but now it’s back and better than ever!

“We are so excited to bring back the Whale Fiesta,” said Aquarium director Crislyn McKerron. “Now in its 52nd year, this event celebrates the migration of gray whales along our shores.”

As part of the Feb. 5 festival, the Aquarium will display its pod of life-sized inflatable whales, which allow visitors to see how they measure up to some of the largest creatures on the planet. Two of the whales welcome visitors inside to see their enormous hearts and ribcages!

“Whale Fiesta will be a big blowout this year,” said Jim DePompei, the Aquarium’s programs director. “Adult blue whales can grow up to 100 feet long, making a life-sized inflatable blue whale an impressive sight to behold.”

Whale Fiesta also features festive music, games, puppet shows, displays by environmental, conservation and educational exhibitors and marine mammal-related arts and crafts for all ages. Other popular activities include “Great Duct Tape Whale Contest” and a “Whales Dynamics” interactive. Friends of Cabrillo Marine Aquarium will host a special members-only virtual reality experience. Food trucks will be onsite to keep guests energized to enjoy all the activities.

Whale Fiesta is a free, family-friendly co-sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 5.
