Digital Influencer FAM – Mexico
L.A. Tourism hosted a digital influencer FAM from Mexico to generate awareness for Pacific Standard Time LA/LA and promote Los Angeles across their digital and social channels. The six influencers boasted a collective reach of 7.8 million people and collectively posted more than 50 times across their channels, generating 14.5 million impressions valued at $80,000. Members showcased during this FAM included the Freehand Hotel Downtown, MOCA, USC Fischer Museum of Art, LA Plaza de Cultural y Artes, California African American Museum, Chinese American Museum, Getty Center, LACMA, Annenberg Space for Photography, 18th Street Arts Center, Redbird and Grand Central Market. World Routes 2017
L.A. Tourism and LAWA Staff attended World Routes 2017 in Barcelona, Spain Sept. 23-26, 2017 and conducted a full slate of appointments with airline partners throughout the show. L.A. Tourism expects announcements for new and expanded service to LAX to continue. World Routes is a global conference for aviation organizations ranging from airlines, airports, tourism and civil aviation authorities to meet, plan and conduct business for new global routes.  

WTCF Los Angeles Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit
The World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) hosted their Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit in Los Angeles September 19-20 at the InterContinental Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. As part of the Summit program, WTCF provided an exclusive opportunity for L.A. Tourism Nihao China members to meet with 20 leading China Travel Agencies at their Tourism Trade Fair on September 20. LATCB Nihao China members were invited to attend the half-day session to discuss future business opportunities with China-based agencies with 35 L.A. Tourism members in attendance.    

Travel Managers Conference – Australia
L.A. Tourism partnered with Universal Studios Hollywood at the annual Travel Managers Conference held in Darwin, Australia September 7-9, 2017. Staff provided updates on all of L.A.’s newest products and LAX developments to more than 250 home-based travel agents at the three-day conference and tradeshow. Agents captured memories from their time at the conference at a L.A.-branded selfie booth and participated in a drawing to win an L.A. vacation courtesy of members Loews Hollywood Hotel, Universal Studios Hollywood, GO Card LA and Starline Tours. Travel Managers is the largest home-based travel agency group in Australia with 500 members nationally.

Luxperience 2017 – Australia
L.A. Tourism’s Australia office exhibited at Luxperience, an annual luxury travel trade show, in Sydney Sept. 18 – 20, 2017.  Staff were joined by hotel partners from InterContinental Century City and Nomad Los Angeles and conducted more than 150 B2B appointments. Following the show, sales calls were made to key Australian retailers and wholesale agent groups to provide members with hands on insight into the Australian outbound travel trade market. To highlight L.A.’s laid-back luxury as well as health and wellness options, an L.A.-branded juice station served buyers with L.A.-inspired fresh juice such as Hollywood Healer, Venice Sunset and Downtown Detox. The three-day B2B travel trade show is the largest luxury trade show in the Australian market and attracts 400-plus leading luxury travel agent buyers from around the globe with a strong focus of buyers from Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. L.A. Tourism’s France representative Jean-Benoît participated in an event organized by VISITEURS in Paris to launch of the new L.A. brochure with 120 travel agents in attendance on Sept. 13, 2017. The event offered a training workshop, networking event and live concert.   

Kuoni – France
L.A. Tourism’s France representative Jean-Benoît attended the first Kuoni roadshow before the FR International Tourism Fair Sept. 18-20, 2017. L.A. Tourism joined the roadshow in Montpellier, Aix en Provence, Nice and Lyon where a total of 181 agents trained on the latest L.A. happenings.

IFTM Top Resa – France
L.A. Tourism’s France office, in partnership with Visit California, participated in the annual international tourism fair in Paris Sept. 26-29, 2017. Staff educated more than 780 travel trade agents on the latest L.A. happenings during the show.

Travel Trade Training – Korea
L.A. Tourism’s Korea representative KPR conducted a destination training day for travel trade management staff from 11 key agencies in Seoul, South Korea on Sept. 28, 2017.  The session highlighted Los Angeles as a destination of choice and positioned LAX as the premier gateway airport to the U.S. for Korean travelers.  This training is a first in a new series that will be offered throughout the year.

Breakfast Seminar at Tabikobo – Japan
L.A. Tourism’s Japan representative Emiko Morimoto conducted a breakfast training seminar for 12 staff of Tabikobo agency, one of Japan’s fastest growing OTAs, on Sept. 12, 2017. Emiko showcased the latest L.A. developments across the city including LAX, Metro, new hotel products, upcoming events, unique tours and luxury dining. Tabikobo’s customers tend to be younger and are seeking something new and unique during their travels.

Tourism Expo Japan 2017
L.A. Tourism, in partnership with Visit California, co-exhibited at Tourism Expo Japan, one of the world’s largest tourism events, in Tokyo Big Sight Sept. 21-24, 2017. Staff met with 18 travel agencies during the first two days of the show and provided the latest L.A. updates and developments including Metro, new hotels and LAX. L.A. Tourism distributed brochures for partner organizations including Universal Studios Hollywood, The Original Farmer’s Market, Westfield, and Citadel Outlets as well as L.A. pocket guides and maps. Tourism Expo Japan is co-organized by Japan Travel and Tourism Association, Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) and Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). The four-day event is split between travel trade and consumer days welcoming 191,500 total attendees.

Qingdao Roadshow - China
L.A. Tourism’s China office co-hosted a roadshow with Xiamen Airlines for more than 200 travel trade from Northeast China in Qingdao on Sept. 8, 2017 to promote the upcoming December launch of direct air service from TAO-LAX. Staff provided a welcome speech and presentation on LAX’s modernization project with updates on new developments such as the Private Suite, TMD hotels and the latest L.A. attractions.

Brand USA Sales Roadshow - Changsha and Guangzhou
L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou office participated in Brand USA’s Sales Roadshow in Changsha on Sep. 11 and in Guangzhou on Sep. 13, 2017. Staff delivered presentations on upcoming direct air service between China and LAX, LAX’s updated facilities, new hotels and the latest only-in-L.A. attractions to 150 top travel trade. L.A. Tourism also joined the in-house training at Tuniu.com in Guangzhou on Sep. 14, which was organized by Brand USA.

Training Seminar with Xiamen C & D International Travel Agency
L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou office co-hosted a training seminar at Xiamen C & D International Travel Agency for its 50 key corporate accounts on Sept. 15, 2017 to promote Xiamen Airline’s new direct air service of XMN-LAX launched on June 27, 2017 and XMN-TAO-LAX to be launched on Dec. 11, 2017. Staff delivered updates on LAX's modernization and its new the Private Suite service and highlighted the latest only-in-L.A. attractions.

Xiamen Airlines FAM  
L.A. Tourism, in partnership with Xiamen Airlines, co-organized a new air service FAM trip for top travel agents in Fujian Province and one travel trade media editor Sept. 21-25, 2017. The goal of the FAM was to enhance the agent’s L.A. itineraries and focused on quintessential L.A. experiences including Angels Flight, Grand Central Market, Universal Studios Hollywood, OUE Skyscape, The Original Farmers Market, Petersen Automotive Museum. Accommodations were provided by InterContinental Los Angeles Century City and The Westin Bonaventure Hotels and Suites.

Club California Event - Guangzhou
Organized by Visit California, L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou office joined its Club California event, a series of training events, on Sept. 22, 2017 to meet with 20 top travel agents from the markets of Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Staff delivered presentations on Los Angeles highlighting upcoming direct air services between China-LAX (specifically SZX-LAX to be launched by Air China on Dec. 10, 2017 and HKG-LAX to be launched by Hong Kong Airlines on Dec. 18, 2017), updates on LAX’s modernization and Private Suite, and the latest only-in-L.A. attractions and hotels.   



Brand USA MICE Trainings - Beijing
To better promote L.A.’s MICE resources, L.A. Tourism’s Beijing office participated in BrandUSA’s in-house MICE trainings Sept. 7-15, 2017 with 170 travel trade from five leading MICE organizers including CTS MICE, China Comfort MICE, Grand China MICE, CYTS MICE and Tuniu.com MICE. Staff briefed MICE planners on the current and upcoming direct air service between China-LAX, (particularly the PEK-LAX by American Airlines launching Nov. 6, 2017), LAX's latest modernization developments, TMD hotels with meeting facilities, unique MICE venues, only-in-L.A. attractions as well as L.A.’s shopping centers such as Westfield.


L.A. Tourism’s Communications team hosted key Chinese media outlets throughout the month of September for future editorial coverage of the destination. From Sept. 11-15, a journalist from China Southern Airline’s inflight magazine, Gateway, experienced several quintessential L.A. destinations including The Grove, Universal Studios Hollywood, Paramount Studios as well as cultural hubs such as The Getty Center and LACMA. A journalist from iFeng.com conducted two livestream reports at Grand Central Market and The Broad, both of which attracted 260K views each. The journalist experienced Griffith Observatory, Border Grill, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Hollywood & Highland and a Starline Tour, all of which will be highlighted in an upcoming feature. Accommodations were hosted by Mama Shelter.

The Communications team secured a speaking opportunity for President & CEO Ernest Wooden Jr. at the 2017 Skift Global Forum in New York City. Mr. Wooden participated in a superpanel on tourism alongside tourism executives from Colombia and Jordan and spoke to several important topics including marketing in a state of 'permanxiety,' the current political rhetoric + L.A.'s 'Everyone is Welcome campaign, sustainable tourism and the rise of digital marketing.
