Arabian Travel Market
L.A. Tourism participated in Arabian Travel Market, the leading global event for the Middle East inbound and outbound travel industry, in Dubai April 24-27, 2017. The annual four-day B2B exhibition showcased over 2,800 products and destinations from around the world to more than 26,000 buyers and travel trade representatives at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Exhibiting at the partner Visit California stand, L.A. Tourism met with airline representatives from the region including Emirates, Etihad, Saudi Airlines and Turkish Airlines as well as major tour operators and agencies. L.A. Tourism also co-hosted a California-themed evening reception for key GCC trade and airlines.

Trainings in Norway
L.A. Tourism’s Scandinavia representative trained all sales and reservations staff at Norway’s largest tour operators USA Spesialisten and Nordmanns Reiser/Amerika Spesialisten, both based in Oslo. Agents were informed with the aim of using LAX as a gateway to Los Angeles and the state of California from Norway. L.A. Tourism also met with airline representatives from Norwegian and SAS, which together have the biggest market share of air service from Norway to LAX.

Virgin Australia Melbourne to LAX
L.A. Tourism’s Australia office partnered with Virgin Australia for the launch of their new service from Melbourne (Australia’s second biggest city) to LAX that commenced on April 4, 2017. The new Virgin Australia service operates five days a week on a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. L.A. Tourism sent off the inaugural flight with American fanfare as a marching band welcomed passengers while they were checking in. Each passenger received a pair of Discover Los Angeles sunglasses and DFS duty-free discount vouchers for their trip. Virgin Australia celebrity ambassador Dannii Minogue was on hand for the launch and flight to LAX, attracting a high level of Australian media coverage.

Active America China 2017

Services Manager Rachel Che attended the Active America China tradeshow in Portland, OR April 23-25. L.A. air service updates, new hotel developments, new attraction tours and itinerary suggestions were shared in 21 scheduled one-on-one appointments with Chinese buyers and L.A. based RTOs. Produced by NAJ Group, Active America China is the only show in North America completely dedicated to building inbound tourism from China.

LOT Air Service Launch
LOT Airlines celebrated their annual inaugural flight from Warsaw, Poland to LAX on April 3 with an event hosted by CEO Rafal Milczarski at the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica. Travel trade representatives attended the launch event. L.A. Tourism and LAWA were heavily involved in securing this new air service to Los Angeles.  LOT’s Warsaw flight is four times weekly on a 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Annual Travel Trade Expos
L.A. Tourism participated in WestJet’s 3rd Annual Travel Trade Expos held in three Eastern Canada cities April 24 – 27, 2017. More than 65 travel partners from hotels and destinations welcomed 400 travel agents in Toronto, Mississauga and Montreal. At the show, WestJet announced the launch of their new ULCC at the end of 2018/early 2019. L.A. Tourism met with travel agents from the region and shared product updates from new hotels, attractions, and events as well as updates at LAX. In addition, L.A. Tourism conducted sales calls and meetings with Travel Brands, Flight Centre Canada, Visit California’s Canada office, YYZ Travel as well as held a destination training at The Travel Network’s Head office.

The Eaglerider Group’s educational itinerary included the iconic Paradise Cove in Malibu where they enjoyed lunch and the scenic views.  The group also enjoyed Hop-On-Hop-Off tours of L.A., and explored METRO. Between April 21-28, 85 travel agents were split into five smaller groups to explore California by various modes of transportation.

L.A. Tourism in China

Visit California China Sales Mission 2017
L.A. Tourism’s China office participated in Visit California’s China Sales Mission in Chengdu, Guangzhou and Hangzhou April 9-13, 2017. The team held 1-on-1 meetings with a total 69 leading tour operators where they promoted direct air service between LAX and China, briefed LAX’s terminal movement in May, and provided updates on L.A. including attractions, events, dining, shopping and only-in-L.A. tour products.  

American Foodie Tour Launch Event
Foodie Tour Launch Event on April 13, 2017 to promote travel to the U.S. by highlighting customer experiences with American food. During the launch event, L.A. Tourism promoted LAX’s new services, L.A.’s dining specialties and dineL.A. to more than 100 outbound travel agencies and tourism media. In partnership with JS Global, the team delivered 100 hand-made L.A. tacos and cupcakes to the event to highlight the L.A. travel experience.

Brand USA In-house Training
L.A. Tourism’s Shanghai office joined Brand USA for an in-house training with six premier tour operators April 16 - 21, 2017. More than 210 representatives participated in the educational in-house training. L.A. Tourism presented air service between LAX and China, LAX's modernizations and its terminal movement, updates on L.A.’s attractions, events, dining, shopping as well as the functions of LATCB’s China office. The powerful ‘Everyone is Welcome’ videos were also played at the training sessions.  

Success Way International Inc. In-house Training
L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou office conducted an in-house training at Success Way International Inc. for a total 50 participants. Staff presented LAX's terminals, latest happenings and terminal relocation movement at LAX in May as well as updates on L.A.’s accommodations, attractions, events, dining and shopping. Established in 2000, Success Way is one of the top-10 North America package tour wholesalers of China outbound tourism, specializing in U.S. featured tours, tailor-made and high-end tours.

Xiamen Airlines Seminars
To generate awareness for Xiamen Airlines’ inaugural route to LAX, L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou Office co-hosted a trade partner seminar and key corporate account seminar for 80 participants on Apr 21, 2017. At one seminar, staff presented LAX's modernization, updates on L.A.’s hotel developments and attractions to trade partners from the Fujian Province market. At the second, they highlighted L.A.’s MICE hotels including The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites Los Angeles and The InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, only-in-L.A. MICE venues including Dolby Theatre, shopping centers like Citadel Outlets and Beverly Center, and more.

USA Seminar in Hong Kong

Tourism staff shared LAX's latest developments and its terminal relocation in May, updates on L.A.’s new and attractions as well as only-in-L.A. experience like Beyond the Red Carpet Tour at Dolby Theatre. dineL.A., NBA All-star 2018, and more were also highly recommended to be included in their tour products.

Country Holiday Travel Service (On the Way) In-house Training
L.A. Tourism’s Discover Los Angeles Beijing office conducted an in-house training at Country Holiday Travel Service (On The Way) on April 26, 2017. L.A. Tourism staff delivered updates on air service between LAX and China, relocation of LAX's terminals, updates on L.A including attractions, events, dining, shopping and the functions of the China offices. More than 20 people from sales and operation departments participated in the training. Country Holidays is one of the branches of On The Way. It consists of 5 major divisions, mainly engaging in MICE, VIP, high-end travel, summer camps and FIT tours.



meetL.A. EXCHANGE 2017                                                       
Built on our commitment to adding value, the fourth annual meetL.A. EXCHANGE 2017 was held at The Conga Room on April 18. The reverse trade show between L.A. Tourism’s sellers and the local hotel community is a place for thoughtful connections aimed to educate one another on market trends, destination updates and discuss business opportunities. L.A. Tourism’s Sales team manages customer relationships and promote the products and services Los Angeles offers to clients worldwide. Attendees had productive one-on-one appointments with in-market Sales Directors, Sales leadership, and MICE focused international sales directors to discuss sales strategies, hotel updates and destination trends.

PCMA Education Foundation Summit                                     
Los Angeles sponsored an exclusive PCMA Education Foundation event featuring provoking education and VIP relationship building opportunities in Incline Village, NV March 30-April 2, 2017. Over 90 senior industry planners and executives met to gain new insights, ideas and best practices from some of PCMA’s best featured speakers at the Annual PCMA Education Foundation Partnership Summit. Full of innovative education,  peer-to-peer alliance, and new solutions we immediately put to practice with the qualified clients attending with Los Angeles in collaboration.

SportAccord 2017                                                                    
L.A. Tourism exhibited at SportAccord Convention as Global Partner in Aarhus, Denmark April 2-7, 2017 which included an activation solidifying the destination’s passion to host international sporting events. SportAccord Convention is the world’s premier and most exclusive annual event at the service of sport. It is focused on driving positive change internationally and dedicated to engaging and connecting; rights holders, organizing committees, cities, press and media, businesses and other organizations involved in the development of sport. In addition to exhibiting, Los Angeles hosted an activation area and conducted media interviews, focused meetings and launched its new sports venue sell sheet.

CALSAE ELEVATE 2017                                                                
L.A. Tourism’s Northern California Hotel Sales team represented at ELEVATE 2017 Annual Conference in Newport Beach April 3-5, 2017 where more than 300 association industry professionals and partners converged to meet their professional needs. Integration into excellent learning experiences and developing relationships allows Los Angeles to stay on the forefront of the California Association market while peer networking and sharing new ideas to further enhance the perception of Los Angeles as thee destination for meetings and events.

12th Annual Simpleview Summit                                          
The 2017 Simpleview Summit in Tucson, AZ April 3-5, 2017 attracted extraordinary attendance with more than 800 attendees in total (from eight different countries) to an unprecedented number of presentations. Packed with dozens of in-depth trainings covering cutting-edge trends, super-user best practices, and fast-track refreshers for new and experienced attendees alike, L.A. Tourism Sales benefited from attending presentations combined with trainings, roundtables and demos to maximize the CRM system for business development and member interaction.

MJM Meetings: Global Industry Day                                     
In celebration of Global Meetings Industry Day, the L.A. Tourism Midwest Sales team traveled to Minneapolis, MN April 5-6, 2017 where with MPI, SITE, SGMP, NACE, ILEA, SPIN, PCMA, & HSMAI, they discussed industry’s economic impact on Los Angeles. A presentation on the Super Bowl in 2018 was used to better understand how these mega-events can impact destinations.

MJM Meetings: Global Industry Day                                          
In celebration of Global Meetings Industry Day, the L.A. Tourism Midwest Sales team participated with St. Louis' top industry professionals in Kansas City to discuss the current meetings environment on April 6, 2017. With topics such as rooming block trends, community impact, event design and much more, L.A. Tourism maximized its support of #MeetingsMeanBusiness to clients of the MPI St. Louis Area Chapter, Explore St. Louis and Maritz Travel.

National Sales Meeting                                                             
The L.A. Tourism Sales team conducted its bi-annual National Sales Meeting April 17-21, 2017. Sellers from all respective markets were in Los Angeles to engage, share best practices, develop citywide and self-contained sales strategies, and discuss business development. The meeting also provided a forum to educate each other on the latest in hotel and venue offerings that will continue to keep the destination competitive as well as conduct face to face strategic planning with the international team (MICE) and organizational leadership to maximize sales.

Smart Meetings - Denver                                                          
L.A. Tourism’s Pacific Northwest Sales representative conducted highly targeted one-on-one appointments with premier clients and propelled connections with exclusive VIP networking meet-ups at the Smart Meeting Mountain in Denver, CO on April 27. Los Angeles was showcased as the ideal venue for programs from unique thematic live elements, innovative venues and limitless hotel options.

Conference Direct Annual Partner Meeting                         
L.A. Tourism Sales exhibited at ConferenceDirect’s Annual Partner Meeting in Baltimore April 30 – May 3, 2017. The Annual Partner Meeting provides partners with the opportunity to meet and conduct business with over 220 top Associates who represent nearly 10,000 events and close to $800 million in hotel room revenue annually. The team met with qualified professionals at a reverse tradeshow where associates exhibit at tables and partners walk the show floor. Los Angeles is proud to be the host city for APM 2018 March 24-29, 2018.


California Cup
L.A. Tourism PR partnered with Visit West Hollywood to host a mix of travel trade and select media during the California Cup golf tournament. The group split their stay between Downtown Los Angeles at the Millennium Biltmore for the first half and West Hollywood at Ramada Plaza Hotel for the second half. Of the media who participated in CA Cup, there were two from the U.S. (Napa Valley Life Magazine and Golf Advisor), one from Canada (Canadian Travel Press) and one from the U.K. (BMI Publishing). In addition to the tournament, L.A. Tourism showcased only-in-L.A. experiences including Grand Central Market, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, a hike with Bikes and Hikes LA, The Broad and dining at Zinc Café and 71Above. Coverage is expected to appear in their respective outlets in the coming months.

Individual Press Trip
As a part of Visit California's Kidifornia initiative, L.A. Tourism partnered to host Liz Vaccariello, Editor-in-Chief of Meredith Network (Parents Magazine, Parents.com) in Los Angeles April 13-15. Liz and her family enjoyed accommodations at Beach House Hermosa Beach, dining at Malibu Farm Restaurant and Ports O’ Call as well as activities like horseback riding with Malibu Riders, a bike rental from Hermosa Cyclery and a trip to Battleship Iowa. Liz’s coverage of her trip is expected to appear in the next coming months.
