A Note from TMD Chairman, Javier Cano - Spring 2017
This week, in celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week (May 7-12), the Tourism Marketing District joined the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board at the Los Angeles City Hall to underscore the importance of tourism and announce the latest visitor impact numbers to the Los Angeles City Council. In 2016, L.A.’s impressive 47.3 million visitors directly spent a record-breaking $21.9 billion dollars and generated $33.6 billion in total economic impact for Los Angeles. This new visitor spend milestone is $1.3 billion more than 2015’s total, an increase of 6.3%. A key economic driver in Los Angeles, tourism now supports 510,500 jobs within the Leisure & Hospitality sector. We also shared with City Council L.A.’s tourism Welcome video which was developed in cooperation with the TMD Board and Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board and has now received 17 million views around the world. https://www.facebook.com/DiscoverLosAngeles/videos/10154292960926010/I look forward to seeing everyone at the TMD Regional Hotel Meetings on June 15 & 16 to share more news about the upcoming marketing and sales initiatives to promote Los Angeles TMD hotels.Kind Regards,Javier CanoTMD Chairman
