Seeds of Resistance 2026
Social justice plays written and performed by East L.A. youth , inspired by community leaders and their life stories.
About...Productions presents a unique event featuring plays created and performed by educationally underrepresented 9-12th graders in the company's "Young Theaterworks' Social Justice Residency" at Roosevelt High School's Math, Science, Technology, Magnet Academy (MSTMA) in Boyle Heights. Students conducted interviews with three social justice leaders whose work has inspired the creation of three new plays to be performed by the students in a production titled: "Seeds of Resistance".
The three social justice leaders students interviewed are:
Odilia Romero, a Zapotec Indigenous rights organizer and co-founder/executive director of Comunidades Indigenas en Liderazgo (CIELO).
Dr. Martha Gonzalez, a Chicana academic, artivist, songwriter/musician, and lead singer of the band Quetzal.
Moctesuma Esparza, an award-winning film producer ("Selena", "Requiem 29", "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez"), entertainment executive, entrepreneur and community activist.
TWO PERFORMANCES:
Afternoon performance at 2 PM (doors at 1:30 PM) - RSVP REQUIRED
Evening performance at 6 PM (doors at 5:30 PM) - RSVP RECOMMENDED
