Detour Book Launch
Detour: A Novel
Book Launch with author Jeff Rake in conversation with Josh Dallas, who played Ben Stone in the NBC/Netflix sci-fi drama series Manifest.
Cop Ryan Crane becomes an unlikely hero when he stops an attempted assassination on billionaire and would-be president John Ward. Grateful, Ward invites Ryan to join a select group of civilians traveling with three astronauts on the first crewed mission to Titan. Ryan hesitates—he’s devoted to his wife and their disabled son—but the life-changing financial package convinces him to go.
The two-year mission is smooth until the ship is rocked by a string of unexplained explosions as it orbits Titan. The shaken crew works together to stabilize the vessel and manages to return safely to Earth, where they’re celebrated as pioneers.
But once the public excitement fades, Ryan and the other astronauts start noticing unsettling differences. Some things seem too good to be true, like luxurious improvements to their homes. Other changes are alarming: strange people appear to be watching them, their devices malfunction, and attempts to contact one another are mysteriously blocked.
As the crew becomes isolated and increasingly paranoid, they realize the Earth they’ve returned to may not be the same one they left. Forced to unravel what really happened during the Titan mission, they must decide whom to trust—and how far they’ll go—to reclaim their real lives. Their mission, they discover, didn’t end when they landed; it’s only just beginning.
