Every Thursday is Queer Art Hang at Nova Community Arts, a series of programs exclusively for adults in the LBGTQ+ community. This week, join guest instructor FyerLion join FyerLyon for an intimate evening of Riso printing specifically for the trans community!

Using the beloved fluorescent pink and mint Riso inks similar to the trans flag, we will each make a beautifully unique edition of Risograph prints that explore themes of transness, joy, gender euphoria, and expression, as a radical act of resistance to the ever increasing hostility and violence our community faces. We will start the night off discussing the significance of our work together, and then share our experience of Riso printing afterward. Participants should prepare to send over a photograph or digitally designed piece beforehand, to print with the inks stand alone or blended. If you have Riso experience you can prep your two layers (mint and pink) individually, or if you haven’t Riso printed before you can design something with pink and mint, or even just bring a photo or other design that we will prep for you. Fyer hopes you’ll join her for this sacred evening of creating, laughter, and connection, to honor our selves, our ancestors, and our community this pride month. All levels of Riso printing experience are welcome, whether you're a new or seasoned printer!

FyerLyon (she/her) is a white disabled transfeminine artist, educator, and somatics practitioner based in beautiful Altadena. Her work centers themes of liberation, healing, rest, play, relationship, and connection to the land she occupies. Fyer spends most of her days sipping and spilling tea, meditating, walking her dog Oliver among the Oak trees, taking pictures, serving c***, healing trauma, Riso printing, and finding the best dress to wear out. You can check out her work on instagram @fyerlyon

This program is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Department of Arts and Culture.
