Leave No Trace (2015) is a meditative story that embraces silence and slow revelation. Set in Oregon’s lush woods, it follows a teenage girl (Thomasin McKenzie) and her PTSD-stricken father (Ben Foster) as they live off the grid. The forest, more than just a backdrop, becomes a vital character in the film. Debra Granik offers a fresh take on feminine coming-of-age while also exploring veteran suicide and houselessness, and casting local first-time actors for authenticity.
DCP, color, 109 min. Director/Screenwriter: Debra Granik. With: Ben Foster, Thomasin McKenzie, Jeff Kober, Dale Dickey.
