A Note from TMD Chairman, Javier Cano - Spring 2018

On behalf of the Tourism Marketing District, I joined L.A. Tourism President & CEO Ernest Wooden Jr. and LACTD Executive Director Doane Liu earlier this month to underscore the power of tourism in front of the L.A. City Council during National Travel & Tourism Week.

In 2017, L.A.’s record-setting 48.5 million visitors directly spent an all time-high $22.7 billion into the local economy, generating a record $34.9 billion in economic impact. A key economic driver, travelers generated a record $283.9 million in transient occupancy tax collections for the City of L.A., a critical revenue source used to fund local street repair and cultural services. More importantly, tourism is supporting more Leisure & Hospitality jobs than ever before, employing more than 523,000 Angelenos and their families.

I hope to see everyone at our upcoming TMD Regional Hotel Meetings on June 18 & 19. Remember, this is your Tourism Marketing District and your ideas and feedback are truly vital to the various programming and initiatives used to promote L.A. TMD hotels across the globe.

Kind Regards,

Javier Cano
TMD Chairman
