A Note from Ernie - March 2018

President and CEO Ernest Wooden Jr., LATCB

Dear Friends,

L.A. Tourism recently hosted its first ever Ready Los Angeles: A Crisis Preparedness Summit, where crisis experts including key players from city entities shared strategies for better preparation and communication in the event of a crisis. I’d like to personally thank our Members that were able to attend last month’s Summit and I hope you left with a clearer understanding of what a citywide crisis response looks like and with strategies and tips for updating your venue’s crisis plan. A huge thanks to our host venue, Los Angeles Convention Center, as well as our sponsors, AEG and MWWPR.

I’m pleased to share Transient Occupancy Tax receipts continue to be a powerful contributor to the City of L.A.’s General Fund with $20 million collected for January 2018. This brings the fiscal year total to $171.4 million, which is $19.1 million more than the same time last year (a 12.6% increase).

I encourage you all to attend our first Member Mixer of the year at Carondelet House on Thursday, March 22. Please join us for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres by Tres LA Catering and networking with fellow industry peers and the L.A. Tourism team. Be sure to RSVP via the invite in your email inbox.

These are just a few of the many updates on L.A. Tourism and our industry that we’re sharing with you in March’s newsletter. As always, we will continue to work diligently on behalf of all of our members to keep the world coming to Los Angeles.

Best,

Ernest Wooden Jr.
