City of Los Angeles Department of Convention & Tourism Development
The City of Los Angeles Department of Convention and Tourism Development strives to bring economic growth and job creation to the City by increasing the competitiveness of Los Angeles as a convention and tourist destination.
Our strategy for doing so is comprised of four pillars.
- Privatizing the operations of the facility through a contract with AEG (the City still remains owner of the facility);
- Executing a new governance model which creates a newly empowered Executive Director, an authoritative rather than advisory Board of Commissioners with management responsibilities for the AEG and Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board (LATCB) contracts, and a mandate to promote the citywide leisure and hospitality sector;
- Modernizing the Los Angeles Convention Center facility and increasing space offerings to improve our competitive position in attracting new Citywide conventions and retaining returning business; and
- Promoting hotel development, with the goal of adding 4,000 new hotel rooms within walking distance of the Convention Center by 2020.
