Los Angeles Tourism At Work - August 2022

All Staff at Midnight Mission

All-Staff Volunteer Day at The Midnight Mission
For our first all-staff volunteer day, L.A. Tourism partnered with The Midnight Mission to prepare meals and help make hygiene kits for our unsheltered neighbors in Downtown Los Angeles. It was a fantastic opportunity to spend the day working together to support our community as a team.

The Midnight Mission has been serving the L.A. community for more than 100 years to remove obstacles and provide the accountability and structure that people who are experiencing homelessness need to be productive. Our partnership with OBEY Clothing and House Industries to create the Los Angeles logo t-shirts also previously raised $20,000 to support the mission.

Justin Turner's Guide to Los Angeles
To celebrate the arrival of MLB All-Star Week to Los Angeles, the Global Communications Team partnered with hometown hero Justin Turner, third baseman for the L.A. Dodgers on a video project to share his favorite local experiences with media.

Pitching efforts resulted in a story placement in Modern Luxury Angeleno. As a demonstration of our cross-department collaboration, we also leveraged the video content on the Discover Los Angeles YouTube channel.

Meet L.A. Exchange Marks Return of Industry Events
Industry meetings and events are returning with full force! In the past few weeks, the Sales and Services team held a series of events to bring together our industry’s top meeting and event planners for educational and networking opportunities. Recent events have included the Global Sales Meeting, a Customer Advisory Board Meeting, and the Meet L.A. Exchange.

The first Meet L.A. Exchange since the beginning of the pandemic welcomed over 70 Members and Partners from throughout Los Angeles to the Omni Los Angeles Hotel to reconnect with members of L.A. Tourism’s Sales & Membership teams and discuss market trends, upcoming opportunities, and how best to utilize their membership with us. In addition to the exchange, the afternoon included a welcome lunch for new Members where they heard directly from department leaders, as well as a reception at The Yard to continue networking.

Member Mixers Make Their Comeback
Membership events made their in-person comeback on July 13 at the Vibiana in Downtown Los Angeles our first Membership Mixer since 2019. The event saw more than 270 Members in attendance from a mix off all Member categories, including hotels, museums, attractions, meeting planners, restaurants and more!
The teams at Vibiana and REVIVE, the soaring ’20s, circus-infused dining experience by Chef Neal Fraser, did a fantastic job of hosting the event and showcasing their performance for our Members.

Updates From Our European Regional Office
Los Angeles has two new direct routes from Europe starting this month! Europe’s newest low-cost airline, Norse Atlantic Airways, is commencing direct service from both Oslo starting on August 9 and Berlin on August 19, making it even easier for Europeans to visit Los Angeles. Norse Atlantic Airways is a Norwegian low-cost, long-haul airline founded in February 2021. The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft between Europe and North America. The European Regional office has been working with the airline on support needs for the inaugural flights.
Our London team also recently moved into a new office located in the trendy Borough Yards, an exciting development similar to our own Grand Central Market. The team utilizing the office consists of Francine Sheridan, Regional Vice President of Europe & Middle East, Hayley French, Director of Travel Trade, and Lisa Preece, Manager of European Communications.
