In Dreams, Doppelgängers, and Parallel Universes, artist Perin Mahler invites viewers into a fractured and surreal landscape where identity, time, and truth blur across multiple dimensions. This solo exhibition features twelve to fifteen large-scale oil paintings developed over four years—each one a layered investigation of the psychological, political, and cultural dissonance shaping contemporary life.

Mahler’s work bridges classical painting techniques with cinematic symbolism, surrealist influence, and cutting-edge social critique. Anonymous figures drift through distorted spaces, caught between dream logic and dystopian realism. Vivid, non-objective color and fractured perspectives mirror the experience of navigating alternate realities—whether shaped by social media, political polarization, or internal conflict.

Drawing inspiration from Naomi Klein’s Doppelgänger, Mahler explores the rise of fractured selves, manipulated perception, and the erosion of a shared truth. His reimagining of traditional history painting offers a vision of the 21st century marked by burning houses, floating books, digital ghosts, and parallel selves.

Dreams, Doppelgängers, and Parallel Universes is both visually arresting and conceptually rich, prompting viewers to question how we interpret the world around us—and who we become within it. This exhibition is not just about what we see, but about the invisible forces shaping how we see it.
