Head south on Hill Street one block and then turn left onto 2nd Avenue. Redwood Bar & Grill is about halfway down the block on the south side of the street. Inside, a playful nautical theme, good drinks and a fairly extensive menu welcome guests who want to chill out in a seafaring setting decorated with wooden barrels, rope and rigging, a ceiling painted to look like semaphore flags and a skull and bones display over the bar. DJs and the occasional live band provide entertainment on a tiny makeshift stage.
Two blocks east on 2nd Street is The Edison, which Esquire magazine named one of the best new bars in America. Formerly a private power plant, this one-of-a-kind underground lounge has retained the industrial aesthetic, mixing it with a Roaring 20s theme.
There's no better way to finish out the night than a satisfying late-night meal at Cole's Original French Dip, one of LA's oldest restaurants. You'll be partaking in a venerable Los Angeles tradition with an "original" French dip sandwich in the restaurant's early 1900s decor.
