First Fridays - Natural History Museum (February 6)
Natural History Museum celebrates 20 years of bridging nightlife and education with the return of First Fridays on February 6. “Life at the Human Scale” is the theme for this month’s talk and Jay Som headlines the music portion of the night, which will also include DJ sets from Novena Carmel and Wyldeflower.
Nadja - Philosophical Research Society (February 6 & 8)
Nadja, the 1994 arthouse vampire movie directed by Michael Almereyda and executive produced by David Lynch, was recently restored from its 35 mm answer print, giving audience’s the chance to see the original Director’s Cut. Catch it at Philosophical Research Society on Friday, February 6 or Sunday, February 8.
Tchaikovsky, Ades - Walt Disney Concert Hall (February 6-8)
Thomas Adès conducts the LA Philharmonic, with Yuja Wang on piano, for a program that includes Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini, Op.32, as well as work from Prokofiev and Adès himself. Opening the night will be the U.S. premiere of LA Phil commission Man with Limp Wrist by William Marsey. Performances are scheduled for Friday, February 6 through Sunday, February 8 at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Kristen Schaal’s The Legend of Crystal Shell - Dynasty Typewriter (February 4 and 6)
Kristen Schaal brings her latest show, The Legend of Crystal Shell, to Dynasty Typewriter on Wednesday, February 4, and Friday, February 6, which co-stars Schaal’s Bob’s Burger castmate John Roberts and features music by Big Black Delta
Wild Up: The Great Learning - The Broad (February 7)
GRAMMY nominated collective Wild Up invites 30 non-musicians to perform Cornelius Cardew’s The Great Learning, Paragraphs 2 and 7 with them at The Broad on Saturday, February 7. The concert coincides with the museum’s current exhibition, Robert Therrien: This Is a Story.
She Past Away, Forever Grey, Soft Vein - The Novo (February 7)
Turkish post-punk duo She Past Away headlines The Novo on Saturday, February 7. Plan to arrive early to check out the melancholic synth sounds of Soft Vein and see local darkwave faves Forever Grey.
Drink the Sea - Lodge Room (February 7)
Featuring members of R.E.M., Screaming Trees and Them Crooked Vultures, Drink the Sea released their debut double album last year and will be on the road through February, with a stop at the Lodge Room set for Saturday, February 7.
Taeko Onuki - The Wiltern (February 7)
Japanese singer-songwriter Taeko Onuki first came to acclaim during the late 1970s and early 1980s and has been garnering new generations of fans with songs like jazzy disco heater “4:00 a.m.” She’ll be the first to play The Wiltern’s new concert series, City Pop Waves. Catch her on Saturday, February 7.
Drop-in Workshop: Animation Inspired by Ponyo - Academy Museum (February 7)
Studio Ghibili’s PONYO, the Academy Museum’s latest exhibition, doesn’t open until Valentine’s Day, but, on Saturday, February 7, families are invited to drop in to the Shirley Temple Education Studio to learn how to make their own stop-motion animations inspired by the 2008 film. The workshop is free with general admission to the Academy Museum.
Eats Everything - Academy LA (February 7)
Eats Everything, whose 2025 album, We Lost Ourselves and Found a Family, brought together collaborators like MJ Cole, Paul Oakenfold and Kerri Chandler, plays Academy LA on Saturday, February 7. Catch the English DJ/producer with support from Murphy’s Law and Ruze.
