Sure, you’re coming to Los Angeles for work. But you definitely identify with the timeless sentiment that “all work and no play” leads to a painfully dull existence. The star treatment begins from the moment you claim your bag. An easy call to the concierge staff at the InterContinental had secured you transport from LAX in a luxury car, which enables you to get your bearings, so you can relax and plan how you’ll make the most of your free time in LA.
As you approach, you can already tell that the time you get to spend at the InterContinental is going to be special. Shaped like a Mayan Temple, the massive hotel boasts a glass-fronted entry, exuding luxury before you even step foot in the grand lobby. You’re immediately greeted as if you’ve been a regular at the InterContinental for years. Although you’re a bit early for your check-in, you’re reassured that it’s no problem, and you’re quickly directed to your One Bedroom Premier Suite, which you soon find lives up to its name.
With 700 square feet of space, you practically squeal at the sight of your private residence for the next few days, before wondering if there’s any way, you could get away with working remotely while in L.A. After all, the leather sofa, complete with a chaise lounge, could easily serve as your workspace for the coming days. But as you look around you realize that the furnished balcony with a sectional couch carefully situated under nice shading, could also prove a luxurious, productive space. However, the pull of the lounge chairs beckoning you to sunbathe your days away could potentially be a distraction.
Back inside, you brew yourself a cup of coffee from the Keurig machine, and finally settle on setting up your computer at the clearly designated workstation, telling yourself that you’ll just take frequent breaks to go out onto the balcony, or the second terrace for inspiration. The fact that you have two unique outdoor spaces, high above the city makes you feel as if you are—as you’ve always suspected—a pretty big deal.
The rest of the suite is equally appointed to make you feel like royalty. With Italian marble throughout the bathroom (which boasts a separate shower and tub), a plush robe, and slippers, along with exclusive Agraria Lemon Verbena toiletries, it’s clear that the InterContinental wants their guests to feel like bona fide stars during their stay.
Because it’s still early in the day, and you’re not really expected to be working until tomorrow, you decide to stroll the grounds and enjoy the courtyard garden. It’s easy to see why the venue is host to so many weddings. It’s green, lush, and tranquil and you can hardly wait for dinner on the patio of Mari Los Angeles later this evening. But first, you take the concierge’s suggestion and head to world-famous Rodeo Drive, via a Tesla provided by the InterContinental.
After one major splurge and a lot of strolling and window shopping, you decide that the afternoon sun is absolutely perfect for a swim at the InterContinental’s edgeless pool.
Roof side, you enjoy the sun, the sky, and the warm water, and almost forget you’re here for work. But speaking of which, it’s probably time to check in with the office via email, so after a quick steam in the onsite sauna, you head back to your room to handle emails and get ready for dinner.
In no time, thanks to the Wi-Fi, you’re caught up, and decide to treat yourself to a little pre-dinner drink from the fully stocked mini-bar, which you enjoy on the super comfy outdoor couch. If you weren’t getting hungry, you’d be content spending the entire evening out here. The views are breathtaking, and you really are starting to feel like a star luxuriating in your own personal palace.
Fortunately, the globally inspired dinner menu at Mari, coupled with your seat on the patio overlooking the courtyard continues to make you feel spoiled and special. You nibble on adobo dusted peanuts before savoring the exquisite duck breast tataki. Although you’ve certainly had your fill, you also opt for the ricotta cheesecake, because you’d already planned to hit the onsite fitness center tomorrow before meetings begin.
Full and happy, you consider heading to back to bed, but remind yourself that tomorrow you’ve got to work hard, so there’s still time to play hard, and you’d be remiss to skip a nightcap at the Copper Lounge. With a sleek, modern interior, polished copper leaf surfaces, and dozens of bourbons and scotches to choose from, you ask for a recommendation, and the Copper Lounge original concoction doesn’t disappoint.
Grudgingly, you realize that it’s time for bed, as you’ve got a full day tomorrow. Besides a busy work schedule, you're excited to visit the nearby Annenberg Space for Photography, explore Westfield Century City, and dine at Hinoki & the Bird. So you return to your suite, pull the blackout drapes, and melt into your king bed. Tomorrow will be here before you know it, but fortunately, you’ll be waking up feeling like a superstar.
