Ledisi: For Dinah - Walt Disney Concert Hall (Oct. 3)
GRAMMY Award-winning singer Ledisi releases her new album, For Dinah, on October 3. That same night, she’ll be celebrating her tribute to Dinah Washington with a special performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
L7 - The Belasco (Oct. 3)
L7 celebrates their 40th anniversary on Friday, October 3, at The Belasco with a killer lineup that includes New York punks Lunachicks and Brazilian indie dance outfit CSS.
"Susana" - Academy Museum (Oct. 3)
The titular heroine of Susana, a beautiful young woman with a disturbed and tempestuous nature, escapes a women’s reform school during a stormy night. Finding refuge in the hacienda of a prosperous and respectable family, Susana (Rosita Quintana) soon destabilizes the relationship dynamics of the ranch as she seduces the men who inhabit it. Susana highlights Luis Buñuel’s subversive style as he explores social critique by demonstrating the fragility of morals through a well-to-do Mexican family.
Erykah Badu - Hollywood Bowl (Oct. 3)
Erykah Badu brings The Return of Automatic Slim tour to the Hollywood Bowl on Friday, October 3, with special guest Westside Gunn. Gates open at 6:30pm for the 8pm show.
Model/Actriz - The Fonda Theatre (Oct. 3)
Brooklyn-based Model/Actriz, whose latest album, Pirouette, is one of this year’s standouts, bring their dance rock sound to The Fonda on Friday, October 3, with support from Ayegy.
"Dracula" - New Beverly Cinema (Oct. 3)
Quentin Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema is showing Halloween movies throughout October, from double features to grindhouse flicks to kid-friendly matinees. On Friday, October 3, the New Beverly presents the Universal Pictures classic, Dracula (1931) starring Bela Lugosi in the iconic title role.
The Legendary Pink Dots - Zebulon (Oct. 3)
Long-running, incredibly prolific psychedelic band The Legendary Pink Dots, whose latest album, So Lonely in Heaven, came out earlier this year, plays Zebulon on Friday, October 3. Tickets are running low, so act fast if you want to see them live. Orbit Service opens the show.
Polo & Pan - Kia Forum (Oct. 3)
Polo & Pan, the French duo behind dance floor hits like “Canopée” and “Ani Kuni,” dropped their third album, 22:22, earlier this year. Now on tour, they’ll bring the party to Kia Forum on Friday, October 3.
Terrifying True Stories - Heritage Square (Oct. 3-4)
Terrifying True Stories is taking over Heritage Square Museum on Friday and Saturday, October 3-4! The immersive experience includes four haunted mansions, an abandoned church and the spooky grounds: The Resurrection of Marjorie McCall, Salem’s Circle, Doctor Wax, The Final Prophecy, The Nest of Spiders and Exorcista. Tickets are on sale at Eventbrite and are expected to sell out. The event will take place rain or shine - comfortable shoes are recommended.
"Jaja’s African Hair Braiding" - Mark Taper Forum (Oct. 3-5)
Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, the Tony-winning comedy set in a Harlem salon, comes to Los Angeles for a month-long run at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum. Written by Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Whitney White, the play opens on Wednesday, October 1 and will offer both evening and matinee performances through November 9.
Rooftop Cinema Club - LEVEL DTLA (Oct. 3-5)
Rooftop Cinema Club offers a premier outdoor movie experience at LEVEL in Downtown LA. This Halloween season, RCC is putting the "SIN" in "cinema" with its packed schedule of screenings, including Halloween (Oct. 3), The Addams Family (Oct. 4), Get Out (Oct. 4) and Beetlejuice (Oct. 5).
Carved - Descanso Gardens (Oct. 3-30)
Every October, Descanso Gardens invites the whole family to enjoy Carved, featuring hundreds of carved pumpkins lining the Camellia Forest and Oak Grove. The Descanso Railroad will be specially lit for Carved, and new ghosts will join the family of wood spirits carved from five enormous logs by Chainsaw Jenna. Be amazed by luminous jack-o’-lanterns, hand-carved giant pumpkins and “Rhizome” installation by Tom and Lien Dekyvere.
Muertos Art Walk - Olvera Street (Oct. 4)
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Olvera Street Muertos Art Walk will feature more than 30 local artists selling original artwork, clothing, jewelry, face painting and more. Taking place on Saturday, October 4 from 10am to 7pm, the Muertos Art Walk will bring together artists from the greater Los Angeles community and create awareness for the work being done by the Olvera Street Merchants Association Foundation (OSMAF) to keep cultural traditions alive in Los Angeles.
horsegiirL - Shrine Expo Hall (Oct. 4)
horsegiirL, the pseudonymous German DJ known for wearing a horse head and dropping hyperpop bangers like “My Little White Pony” and “My Barn My Rules,” plays an 18+ show at the Shrine Expo Hall on Saturday, October 4.
Perfume Genius - The Ford (Oct. 4)
Perfume Genius, whose latest album, Glory, came out earlier this year, launches his fall tour in LA on Saturday, October 4. Catch him live at The Ford with support from local electronic pop artist Baths, who also has a new album, Gut, out now. Gates open at 6:30pm for the 8pm show.
"Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass" - Philosophical Research Society (Oct. 4)
Twenty years in the making, Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass is the latest film from influential animation artists the Quay Brothers. See it on the big screen at the Philosophical Research Society on Saturday, October 4. Tickets at Eventbrite.
