Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC): Venice

Event Overview

The Protect & Serve? Five Decades of Posters Protesting Police Violence. In the response to the recent stream of police brutality incidents involving Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray and others, the Center for the Study of Political Graphics’ latest exhibit gathers artistic renderings of resistance against law enforcement, whether it’s government repression, immigration, race or gender profiling. The display features 75 posters by international artists who interpret various political and social protests dating back 50 years, from the 1968 civil unrest in France to the 1992 L.A. riots to the current Black Lives Matter movement.
