The NoMad Hotel, the latest from the Sydell Group which opened in January, brings a sophisticated, European-inspired presence to the downtown Los Angeles hotel scene. In the spirit of the original NoMad in NYC, the hotel took on the restoration of a historic building, Giannini Place, which is a neoclassical gem from the 1920s that was originally the headquarters for The Bank of Italy. (The original vault is still part of the hotel’s design.) The history of the building created the inspiration for the Italianate design, artwork and lavish furnishing throughout. Walking into this hotel truly feels like you’ve stepped into another world, a luxurious one.
The hotel offers 241 guest rooms, each unique in its décor, and some of which offer freestanding clawfoot bathtubs. The dining options, headed up by Chef Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, have received stellar reviews; LA Weekly called the food “exquisite” in its latest review.
The Monnette and Hoffman Rooms
The hotel offers two main spaces for small meetings and seated meals: The Monnette Room, a quaint and cozy private dining space with a window that looks down to the street can accommodate small groups of up to 12. The Hoffman Room, a sleek black-and-white space with red velvet accents can accommodate groups of up to 40.
Other Event Space
For events, the Nomad has several options. The open mezzanine, which looks down on the lobby can accommodate receptions for up to 200 guests. The main floor also includes the Coffee Bar/Bar Amadeo, a coffee bar by day and cocktail bar by night, modeled after an elegant European café. This space has separate street access and can easily be blocked off for private events of up to 70.
But the crown jewel of this hotel is the rooftop pool: over 5,000 square feet of immaculately landscaped space with a private bar, city views and capacity of 250 guests. In all, the hotel has over 10,000 feet of space that can be utilized for meetings and events.
