Going to a live TV taping is one of the best tourist experiences, and there’s no better city to join the audience of a popular show than here in Los Angeles!

Watching the behind-the-scenes of TV productions while getting up-close with celebrity hosts and guests is one of the best things to do in LA. And tickets are free! Whether you attend a talk show, game show, or talent contest, you’ll never watch TV the same way again.

Here’s how you can apply to join the audience of 10 shows that are produced right here in LA – but plan ahead, as many have a waiting list that fills up fast.

American Idol - Red Studios Hollywood

The enormous success of American Idol has transcended television to become a pop culture phenomenon, spawning not only similar shows but also launching the careers of superstars Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert.. You can sign-up to rub shoulders with all the show’s glamour, A-list judges and star-reaching singers as part of its on-camera audience. Enter your info on the online form and you’ll be notified when tickets are released.

America's Got Talent - Pasadena Civic Auditorium

Created by original American Idol judge Simon Cowell, America’s Got Talent is one of many shows indebted to the Idol format (albeit open to all ages and not restricted to just singing). Sign up for tickets and witness the diverse performances and famed judges, including Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara; and host Terry Crews.

To minimize lines there are two daily ticket distributions, so be sure to choose only one arrival. If tickets are not yet available for your chosen date or all shows are full, submit your info to be notified when tickets are released. Children aged 8 and older can attend (accompanied by an adult).

Dancing with the Stars is back this Fall with hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough. An all-new cast of celebrities and the show's pro dancers will brave the dance floor for the very first time, including: Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino, Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), supermodel Tyson Beckford and Greg Brady himself, Barry Williams. Each week the celebs and their partners will perform a dance, which will be judged by a panel of experts - Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough - as well as voted upon by viewers. In the end, only one star will be crowned champion and win the coveted Mirrorball trophy.

Sign up for tickets and be sure to arrive early on the day, as there’s a line to join and entry is first come, first served and not guaranteed.

Jeopardy! - Sony Pictures Studios

Airing since 1964, Jeopardy! is one of those shows that everyone knows – which makes being in its studio audience even cooler! Tickets for this trivia-fest are free, but also extremely limited and only available on a first come, first served basis. Jeopardy! tapes five shows a day with two different audiences, so if you’re a true fan you’ll watch the taping of either two or three episodes. Jeopardy! allows children as young as 8 (accompanied by an adult), but keep in mind that tapings take 3-4 hours from arrival to final taping, which might test the patience of youngsters.
