The Best Los Angeles Nightclub Events
Want to explore LA's indie and alternative nightlife? This is a fantastic week to do just that! Monthly, occult-themed burlesque revue Belle, Book & Candle returns to El Cid with a special solstice event, while seminal punk band Saccharine Trust plays Zebulon the same night. This weekend, indie-centric Dum Dum Fest takes over The Echo while Goth Pride swells at The Echoplex on Saturday night and L.A.’s goth scene converges with lucha libre at Don Quixote on Sunday.
If house music is your jam, there are still tickets available for Insomniac’s Day Trip Festival in Long Beach, but you can also head to Hotel Ziggy in West Hollywood, where PEX LA will bring the vibes from Friday through Sunday.
In addition to all of this, there are multiple tours hitting LA, from underground icons Melt-Banana to pop star Megan Thee Stallion to Yacht Rock legends The Doobie Brothers. Plus, the Hollywood Bowl celebrates Juneteenth on Wednesday with a lineup co-curated by T-Pain and officially kickstarts the 2024 season on Sunday with a 100th Celebration of Henry Mancini. TV Girl - The Wiltern (June 17-19)
Two years ago, San Diego-based indie pop outfit TV Girl got a big boost from TikTok. Since then, the long-running band has released their soulful fourth album, Grapes Upon the Vine. Catch them live Monday night at The Wiltern. Tickets to the all-ages show at Live Nation.
Daryl Hall + Elvis Costello - The Greek Theatre (June 18)
With his new album, D, ready to drop on June 21, Daryl Hall heads to the Greek Theatre on Tuesday evening. Joining him are Elvis Costello & the Imposters with Charlie Sexton, who have been touring together for the past several years. Doors open 90 minutes before showtime, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the venue’s concessions. You can also upgrade to box or premium seats that include dining packages. Belle, Book & Candle: Midsummer - El Cid (June 19)
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with LA’s monthly occult burlesque event, Belle, Book & Candle. Presented by Pleasant Gehman and Shana Leilani, the Wednesday night show at El Cid will include performances from Lena Fumi, April Showers, Fannie Sinclair, Amaya Absynthe, Princess Farhana and more. Saccharine Trust Performs "Pagnicons" - Zebulon (June 19)
Saccharine Trust, the seminal LA punk band that would go on to influence everyone from Kurt Cobain to jazz bassist Damon Smith, hits the Zebulon stage on Wednesday night to play their 1981 debut, Pagnicons. Tickets at Dice.
Drew McDowall - Lodge Room (June 19)
Drew McDowall, the experimental musician best known for his work in the 1990s with electronic music outfit Coil, manipulates orchestral sounds on his recently released album, A Thread, Silvered and Trembling. Joining him for this special engagement at Lodge Room are LA-based electronic experimentalists Green-House and Cruel Diagonals. Tickets to the all-ages show on sale at the Lodge Room website.
Juneteenth Celebration feat. T-Pain - Hollywood Bowl (June 19)
Celebrate Juneteenth at the Hollywood Bowl with a program co-curated by T-Pain. The event includes performances from Ledisi, D Smoke, Tina Campbell (Mary Mary), LaRussell and DC6 Singers Collective, as well Color of Noize Orchestra with Derrick Hodge conducting.
Team Dresch - Teragram Ballroom (June 19)
Queercore icons Team Dresch are back for just a few dates along the West Coast, including Wednesday night’s engagement at Teragram Ballroom. This is an all-ages show with Oceanator and L.A.-based Desert Mambas opening the show. Tickets at Ticketmaster.
Group Chat 2 Year Anniversary - Academy LA (June 20)
Group Chat, the party and label helmed by DJ/producer JSTJR (pronounced “gesture” FYI) is turning two. Celebrate the milestone on Thursday night at Academy LA. The lineup is a secret, but tickets are on sale at Ticketweb with VIP table reservations available by emailing the club.
Eric Wortham & Guests - The Sun Rose (June 20)
Pianist Eric Wortham has performed with the likes of Seal, Jill Scott and Jazmine Sullivan and has turned up on stage at high-profile events ranging from the GRAMMYs to the Glastonbury Festival. Most recently, you may have caught him in Las Vegas, where he’s been accompanying Adele. Thursday’s event is a great opportunity to see the acclaimed musician at the intimate Sun Rose, located in the Pendry West Hollywood. Tickets at Dice.
Todd Rundgren: Me/We - Saban Theatre (June 20)
With a career spanning decades, musician, songwriter and producer Todd Rundgren has a deep well of material to draw from for his current ME/WE Tour. Hear what he has in store for Los Angeles on Thursday night at the Saban Theatre. A limited number of VIP packages, which include a premium reserved ticket and goodies like a print of Rundgren’s lyrics, are available. Megan Thee Stallion - Crypto.com Arena (June 21)
With her latest single, the Gwen Stefani sampling “Boa,” climbing up charts and the accompanying video game-referencing video racking up views on YouTube, Megan Thee Stallion is bringing the Hot Girl Summer tour to cities across the U.S. She plays Crypto.com Arena on Friday night. Blood Club - The Paramount (June 21)
Chicago-based darkwave group Blood Club has been garnering a fanbase at goth and dark alternative club nights thanks to their raw, synth-heavy sound. Right now, the band is on tour in support of their new album, lovesick. You can catch them at The Paramount in Boyle Heights on Friday night with support from Fresno’s DustBowlChampion and locals Casket Cassette and DJ FN1. Tickets at Dice.
Melt-Banana - El Rey Theatre (June 21)
Since the mid-1990s, Japanese noise rock outfit Melt-Banana has developed a devoted following in the U.S. The band’s current 3+5 Tour hits more than 25 cities across the country, with their penultimate date at the El Rey Theatre. Tickets to the all-ages show are on sale at AXS.
Microdazing: Josh Johnson & Reggie Watts - Gold-Diggers (June 21)
The June edition of Microdazing, the monthly celebration of art and music from the folks behind the Desert Daze festival, features a live performance from Josh Johnson, the acclaimed musician who has played saxophone for everyone from Myley Cyrus to Leon Bridges and produced Meshell Ndegeocello’s GRAMMY-winning album, The Omnichord Real Book. Reggie Watts will be your DJ for the night, while Non Plus Ultra and Media Pollution provide art installations and Slightwave and Moirebender bring visuals to the party. Tickets at Dice.
PEX Los Angeles - Hotel Ziggy (June 21-23)
Philadelphia’s long-running dance music event group PEX heads west to take over Hotel Ziggy this weekend for a three-day poolside festival. Part of Hotel Ziggy’s Loomiere.live event series, the party starts on Friday evening and continues until Sunday night with a DJ lineup that includes Ejagz (Friday), Justin Paul (Saturday) and Colette (Sunday). Subculture: Pride - Catch One (June 22)
Bicoastal party series Subculture celebrates LA Pride on Saturday with a hyperpop, EDM and dance music extravaganza at Catch One. With four rooms and three stages of the legendary venue - renowned in local and national LGBTQ+ history - to experience, be prepared to spend most of your Saturday night with Subculture. Twin Tribes - The Novo (June 22)
As this post goes live, there was a low ticket warning for the Twin Tribes show at The Novo, and that’s to be expected. The duo from Texas has built up a large following in LA, where songs from their trio of albums (the most recent, Pendulum, was released this year) are regularly heard at local darkwave dance nights. Be sure to get a ticket before this night sells out. Tickets at AXS.
Dum Dum Fest - The Echo (June 22)
Dum Dum Fest, the local underground music mini-festival organized by zine and record label Dum Dum, returns to The Echo for its second year on Saturday, June 22. The label’s flagship artist, Taleen Kali, headlines a roster that leans into dark alternative music and includes Sacred Skin, Dildox and others. Goth Pride - The Echoplex (June 22)
Nightmare Market LA and Lesbian Goth Night have put together a Pride event for those whose seeking dark rock and electronic sounds. Goth Pride at The Echoplex includes performances from Seattle band Dark Chisme, alongside locals CrowJane, Void Palace, Marie Nyx and Ashley Bad. Tickets at Live Nation.
Day Trip Festival - Queen Mary Waterfront (June 22-23)
House music and ocean breezes will intertwine on the Queen Mary Waterfront this weekend during Insomniac’s Day Trip Festival. With a stacked lineup that includes Boys Noize, Kaskade and Seth Troxler, the 21+ event is nearly sold out. As this post goes live, only a limited amount of single-day, Sunday passes remain, so if you want to catch a sunset set from Armand Van Helden or see Dennis Ferrer and Honeyluv play back-to-back, get your ticket now! Tickets are also still available for the afterparties, which take place after midnight on both Saturday and Sunday night. However, you will need a festival pass and an afterparty ticket to attend.
The Doobie Brothers & The Robert Cray Band - Kia Forum (June 23)
Yacht Rockers of all generations will want to head to the Kia Forum on Sunday, where The Doobie Brothers make their LA stop on the band’s current national tour. With a lineup that includes Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, John McFee and yes, Michael McDonald, you can expect to hear some of the band’s smoothest jams on this special night.
