Discover the Academy Museum Store

Opened simultaneously with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in September 2021, the lobby-level Academy Museum Store is the place to find exclusive and unique gifts for the serious cinephiles in your life. (And, yes, that can include “gifts to self”!)

Don’t expect the typical branded mugs and shirts of an everyday gift shop. Instead, this meticulously thought-out 2,600 square-foot space features imaginative merchandise designed and produced exclusively for the Academy Museum Store, including Oscars® memorabilia and other film-related treasures. It's an enormous and eclectic array: clothing, furniture, accessories, vinyl records, items for the office and home, posters, maps, illustrations, toys, games, and other movie-related collectibles. Not to mention the most comprehensive collection of cinema books and catalogues in Los Angeles.
“The Academy Museum is committed to showcasing the diverse and inclusive stories of the art and artists of moviemaking, and this ethos extends to our Academy Museum Store,” said Bill Kramer, Director and President of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, in a press release.
Furthermore, the Academy Museum is working with super-talented members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to design exceptional, one-of-a-kind items for the store. The museum has also placed considerable focus on partnerships with Los Angeles- and California-based artists, designers, and creatives to produce merchandise specifically for the store.
“These collaborations, along with our unparalleled selection of books and catalogues on cinema, will offer to visitors a retail experience unlike any other,” Kramer continued.
Here are some Academy Museum Store gift ideas that will surprise and delight even the most dedicated movie buffs.

Academy Member Collabs
Amplifying the Academy Museum’s partnerships with its expert members on exhibitions, screenings, and public and education programs, the Academy Museum Store also works with these leading artists and professionals to create exclusive items.
Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter worked with LA native jewelry designer Douriean Fletcher on the 2016 remake of the Roots miniseries and the 2018 blockbuster Black Panther. The duo teamed up again to create a jewelry line developed from the original gold-glass mosaic tiles from the Academy Museum’s iconic exterior gold cylinder (thousands of which were replaced during the building’s restoration).
Additionally, concept artist and production designer I. Javier Ameijeiras designed a series of illustrations for use on Academy Museum merchandise; and Gravillis - the LA-based graphic design agency behind striking posters for Straight Outta Compton, Bohemian Rhapsody and BlacKkKlansmen – created a series of exclusive film posters.

Local Partnerships
The Academy Museum Store works with local partners like Modernica to produce exclusive merchandise conceived right here in the moviemaking capital of the world. These include vinyl film scores and soundtracks curated by Amoeba Music; handmade ceramic vases, inspired by the Saban Building’s distinctive gold cylinder, by Wayne Perry; and houseware, stationery and accessories drawing inspiration from the Academy Museum collection, by lifestyle brand Poketo. And then there are exclusives like luxury candles by Flores Lane; a Hollywood & Beyond Tea Towel by Konstantin Kakanias; and apparel and accessories by Susan Kare.
