Discover Los Angeles Market Outlook Forum
L.A. Tourism shared new visitation forecasts and tourism data with more than 700 local hospitality partners and business leaders at the organization’s fifth annual Market Outlook Forum last month. Among the highlights, visitation to Los Angeles is expected to set a new record in 2017 with more than 48.2 million total visitors, an increase of 1.9% from the previous record-setting year. Total visitor spend in 2016 is projected to eclipse $22.6 billion, an increase of 3.4% from last year.
Special guest speakers included Roger Dow, president & CEO of U.S. Travel Association; William Chun, deputy mayor of economic development for Mayor Garcetti; Deborah Flint, CEO of Los Angeles World Airports; and Phillip A. Washington, CEO of Metro. L.A. Tourism’s executive team also highlighted its global sales and marketing plans for the upcoming year.

You're Invited: 2017 TTMA Awards Luncheon on Oct. 4
The Travel and Tourism Marketing Association (TTMA) celebrates people and institutions that have fostered the success of the travel and tourism industry in Los Angeles and Orange County. The 2017 celebration will take place Wednesday, October 4 on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood back lot.
This annual celebration includes recipients for the Anastasia K. Mann Award (AKM) and the TTMA Landmark Award. The AKM Award recognizes an individual who has selflessly worked to promote travel and tourism in their area.
TTMA is very proud to announce the 2017 award winners:
- Ernest Wooden Jr., President and CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board, will be celebrated as the AKM Award recipient.
- Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood will be honored with the TTMA Landmark Award.

It’s official: Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games following the IOC’s historic decision as they simultaneously awarded the host cities of the 2024 and 2028 Games. Congratulations to Paris on their successful 2024 bid.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) forecasted a record 888,000 passengers passed through the airport over the four-day Labor Day holiday weekend, an increase of 4.1% over last year’s 853,000. Friday, Sept. 1 was expected to be the busiest day with more than 239,000 travelers.
Hong Kong Airlines announces the debut of nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) beginning December 18. The commencement of Los Angeles service marks Hong Kong Airlines’ entry into the Continental United States and further expands its network in North America. The addition builds off of the airline’s initial North American launch, which introduced daily service from Vancouver International Airport to HKG in June.
The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), professionally managed by AEG Facilities, reported generating a record-breaking economic impact of $781 million for the City of Los Angeles in fiscal 2016/2017 with $478 million attributed to convention attendees direct spending. An additional $26.4 million was generated in tax revenues to the City, with $18.2 million in hotel transient-occupancy tax contributions to the City’s general fund. This is an increase over $90 million in total economic impact over last fiscal year. LACC reported a busy July, with over half a million attendees flowing through the building – largely in thanks to Anime Expo, which attracted 357,178 attendees. July’s events generated an estimated $81 million in economic impact for Los Angeles, $73 million of which was from Anime Expo.
