Hainan Airlines West China Travel Trade FAM
In partnership with China Hainan Airlines, Los Angeles Tourism hosted a familiarization trip for 10 travel product managers and executives from West China from December 4-8. The group enjoyed an educational itinerary that showcased personalized, interactive experiences throughout Los Angeles including visits to The Broad, L.A. Zoo, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood’s Mandarin tour, Beverly Center, La Brea Tar Pits, Petersen Automotive Museum, The Original Farmers Market, Universal Studios Hollywood, Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Getty Villa and Citadel Outlets. Accommodations were provided by L.A. Grand Hotel and Sofitel Hotel Beverly Hills.
3rd Chinese Receptive Tour Operator Discovery Day
The China Services team hosted the 3rd Chinese Receptive Tour Operator Discovery Day on December 18. A total of 13 Chinese tour operators conducted site visits with seven participating members: Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, West Hollywood Edition Hotel, Farmhouse, Beverly Center, Airtel Plaza Hotel and Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Discovery Day aims to educate Chinese tour operators on L.A.’s products by allowing attendees to experience properties first-hand, build relationships with other members and further develop their sales skills.
Japan AA/JTB HND FAM – Asia
Los Angeles Tourism partnered with American Airlines and JTB to host a familiarization trip for five travel advisors from December 8-11 in an effort to drive passenger volume on American Airlines' route from HND to LAX. Participants experienced modernization improvements underway at LAX, Getty Center, Universal Studios Hollywood, MOCA, Petersen Automotive Museum and La Brea Tar Pits.
Local RTOs Sales Calls
In December, the International Tourism team conducted sales calls to eight Local Receptive Tour Operators including American Ring Travel, ATI, Califun, Destination America, G2, Hotelbeds, New World Travel and Onward. The calls provided the opportunity to further educate tour operators on the LAX Modernization Program, LAX-it and other Los Angeles developments.
Los Angeles Tourism in Europe
Hotelplan and Kuoni Service Center Training, Switzerland – Europe
Los Angeles Tourism Germany organized a destination training at Hotelplan and Kuoni Service Centers for 14 agents on December 4 & 5 in Zurich, Switzerland. Hotelplan and Kuoni are considered the leading tour operators to the US in Switzerland. The training included updates on L.A. with focus on L.A. Insider online training program to deepen their product knowledge and share Los Angeles travel tips with clients.
Virgin Holidays Incentive, UK – Europe
In December, Los Angeles Tourism partnered with Virgin Holidays to showcase a new incentive campaign for completing the L.A. Insider online training program. Exclusively open to employees of Virgin Holiday retail and customer center, the incentive rewarded vouchers to the first 250 employees who completed the programme between from November 1 - December 15.
Travel Design Lunch Training, Scandinavia – Europe
Los Angeles Tourism in Scandinavia organized a destination training on December 12 in Stockholm. Eight attendees received information on L.A.’s newest hotels and attractions. An introduction on L.A. Insider online training program was also shared with the trainees.
LA Insider Training Completion Blitz, Scandinavia – Europe
In December, Los Angeles Tourism in Scandinavia visited eight travel agencies to encourage agents to complete the L.A. Insider online training program and learn about L.A.'s latest product offerings.
Directours Sales & Communication Campaign, France – Europe
In December, Los Angeles Tourism in France launched a campaign with the upscale tour operator Directours. Three L.A. vacation products were created for the campaign, and are now available for direct booking on the Directours website. Promotion tactics include a newsletter feature, content on the media website Easy Voyage and an upcoming client event in January.
Agency Sales Blitz, Italy – Europe
Los Angeles Tourism in Italy visited more than 10 travel agencies and tour operators in Milan with the goal of increasing product awareness of L.A. in the Italian market. In addition, participants were invited to complete the L.A. Insider online training program.
Los Angeles Tourism in Oceania & Southeast Asia
Viva Holidays Roadshow
In December, Los Angeles Tourism in Australia exhibited at Helloworld’s Viva Holidays B2B Roadshow. A total of 311 travel agents were trained across three events in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Los Angeles Tourism in China
Travel Trade Trainings
Los Angeles Tourism in China conducted seven in-house trainings for key local agents across the country. These included Beijing Best Tour in Beijing; Lvmama with US consulate in Shanghai; Galaxy Tour in Guangzhou; Dista Travel in Jiangmen; and Westar Travel, Hiseas International Travel and Meijing Tour in Chengdu. A total of 142 travel professionals participated in the trainings where they received updates on direct air services from West China to LAX, L.A. Travel Knowledge Bank and Mini Products 2.0 and the newest destination offerings.
Dragon Trail Presentation
In December, Los Angeles Tourism in China delivered three, one-hour webinars on Dragon Trail’s trade educational platform for over 1,000 travel trade professionals. Topics covered include L.A. beach holidays, Hollywood movie locations and LAX Modernization Program. After the training, attendees were invited to participate in an interactive Q&A session where their operational questions were answered by Los Angeles Tourism staff.
Angels Salon with American Airlines
In December, Los Angeles Tourism’s Beijing and Guangzhou offices hosted the Angels Salon training event in partnership with American Airlines. Nearly 40 key decision-makers from agencies in North and South China participated in the event where they learned about the American Airlines’ service out of LAX, upcoming group products and various itineraries featuring Los Angeles as the perfect three-day stopover destination.
Club California with Visit California - Beijing
Los Angeles Tourism’s Beijing office participated in Visit California’s Club California event from December 23-24. The team held 15 one-on-one appointments with participants from travel agencies, wholesalers, OTAs and receptive tour operators. Attendees received updates on current air service between LAX and China, LAX-it and LAX’s dining and shopping offerings.
RTO Luncheon - Beijing
In partnership with OUE Skyspace and Macy’s, an RTO Luncheon was held in Beijing for 11 China-based representatives from L.A. receptive tour operators and the US Embassy. Attendees were given the opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities in tourism with the ultimate goal of bridging public and private sector operations.
CalSAE Seasonal Spectacular
Los Angeles Tourism's Sales team hosted a booth at CalSAE, the largest association tradeshow on the West Coast, where over 700 meeting planners, buyers and industry professionals attended. CalSAE event partners included The Westin Los Angeles Airport, Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach, The L.A. Grand Hotel Downtown, DoubleTree by Hilton Los Angeles Westside, Los Angeles Burbank Marriott, Sheraton Universal Hotel and The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites.
IAEE Expo! Expo!
In December, Los Angeles Tourism hosted a booth at IAEE Expo! Expo! 2019, considered the “show for shows,” offering 100+ education sessions on a variety of current topics and invaluable networking opportunities for attendees and exhibitors alike. Staff connected with clients through appointments and presented a hologram activation of the upcoming Los Angeles Convention Center transformation.
In December, the Communications team hosted a design-focused writer from House Beautiful for future editorial coverage. The writer experienced the newly-renovated Ritz-Carlton, Los Angeles, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2020, as well as ROW DTLA, Bon Temps and Redbird.
The team also began supporting Winter 2020 dineL.A. Restaurant Week by drafting a press release and subsequent pitches which were shared with domestic and international markets for short lead coverage.
