A Note from Ernie - December 2019

Ernest Wooden Jr.

Dear Friends,

As 2019 draws to a close, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on our industry's achievements from this year. We welcomed 50 million visitors for the first time ever; generated a record $36.6 billion in total economic impact; contributed $308 million in TOT monies to the city’s general fund; and became the first U.S. city destination marketing organization to establish a full-time office in India. A truly incredible year.

Looking ahead to 2020, we’re excited for the return of dineL.A. Restaurant Week for the winter season taking place January 17 – 31 with more than 400 participating restaurants across the city. As L.A.’s culinary renaissance continues to make waves across the nation, there is no better time for diners to explore various new and noteworthy dining options offering creative, Instagram-worthy dishes, distinguished flavors and exclusive menus.

Just last week, a year-long advocacy effort resulted in celebratory news as Congress officially secured the future of Brand USA through 2027 via a reauthorization measure included in the broader end-of-year spending package. Thank you to all of you locally who spoke out in favor of Brand USA’s renewal whether it was directly engaging with your elected representatives or spreading the word online.

These are just a few of the updates we’re sharing with you in the final member newsletter of 2019. As always, thank you for your esteemed partnership and all that you do to ensure Los Angeles remains one of the world’s premier travel destinations. I wish you every success in 2020.

Cheers!
