LOS ANGELES MAKES AFAR’S WHERE TO GO LIST 2024
The list represents some of the most exciting travel opportunities for the year ahead
LOS ANGELES (November 28, 2023) – Los Angeles Tourism today announces Los Angeles was named one of AFAR’s top destinations to visit in the year ahead. The award-winning travel media brand revealed its annual Where to Go list on November 28th, featuring 25 exciting places to visit in 2024.
A focus of LA’s inclusion is the upcoming debut of Destination Crenshaw, the largest public/private Black art program in the nation. The project will stamp a 1.3-mile stretch of Crenshaw Boulevard with 100 commissioned works of art by Black artists, beautifully designed community spaces, landscaping, and newly planted trees. Destination Crenshaw’s Sankofa Park will be opening in late February, featuring installations and sculptures from artists including Charles Dickson, Maren Hassinger, Artis Lane, and Kehinde Wiley.
The inclusion also highlights LA’s thriving culinary scene, calling out Chef Rashida Holmes’s upcoming pop-up, Bridgetown Roti, and Row DTLA downtown, where visitors can find omakase at Hayato and wood-fired creations at Chris Bianco’s celebrated Pizzeria Bianco.
“We’re pleased to see AFAR include Los Angeles in their annual Where to Go list,” said Adam Burke, President & CEO, Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. “In addition to the highly anticipated opening of Destination Crenshaw, and our evolving culinary scene, this year will bring an abundance of new openings, expansions, and events you won’t want to miss. We look forward to welcoming you to Los Angeles in 2024!”
Spanning cities, regions, and whole countries, the ‘Where to Go’ list is the result of months of research and reporting from AFAR’s cohort of correspondents and editors roaming the globe. Los Angeles is one of 13 individual destinations, and there are an additional 12 places in editorial roundups covering Great American Cities, 2024 Capitals, and Classics Revisited.
“Working on AFAR’s annual Where to Go list always lands me with a half dozen new places on my “must visit” list, and this year is no exception,” says deputy editor Tim Chester. “I’m now itching to immerse myself Brno’s music scene, drink wine on the coast of Uruguay, and hop aboard a dhow sailboat in Lamu, Kenya—not to mention spend a bit more time exploring my backyard of Los Angeles. Our writers have done a stellar job of bringing 25 places to vivid life; I hope readers find as much inspiration as I did.”
AFAR’s Where to Go 2024 list was revealed online at 9 a.m. on November 28, 2023. The print issue will hit newsstands on January 9, 2024.
