LOS ANGELES CONTINUES STREAK OF MICHELIN RECOGNITION WITH NEW STARS AWARDED TO 3 LOS ANGELES RESTAURANTS
City Cements Status as a Global Dining Capital with MICHELIN Stars Bestowed From
Long Beach to Hollywood
LOS ANGELES (July 19, 2023) – Los Angeles Tourism celebrates the release of the 2023 MICHELIN® Guide California with 25 Los Angeles restaurants awarded one or more MICHELIN Stars and four Bib Gourmand recognitions, underscoring the city’s status as one of the world’s leading dining capitals. Heritage Restaurant in Long Beach earned their first MICHELIN Star. Four restaurants made their debut on the Bib Gourmand list while Providence Restaurant in Hollywood and Heritage received their first MICHELIN Green Stars. The California guide’s total number of starred restaurants now stands at 87, which means the state is home to the most Michelin-starred restaurants in the country. Los Angeles’s diverse array of cuisine types are reflected in the 2023 Bib Gourmand selection, including Carnes Asadas Pancho Lopez, Cobi’s, Eat Joy Food, and Villa’s Tacos. All five Los Angeles area restaurants including Mélisse in Santa Monica and Hayato in DTLA retained their MICHELIN Two Star status. Additionally, Chef Austin Hennelly received a new recognition from MICHELIN, the MICHELIN Exceptional Cocktails Award for Kato.
The awards were announced at California’s MICHELIN Star Revelation event on Tuesday, July 18 in Oakland, CA at the Chabot Space + Science Center. A full list of LA honorees is available at www.discoverlosangeles.com.
"We’re elated to see continued recognition of LA's world-class culinary offerings,” said Adam Burke, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board. “Our community is a true epicenter of creativity and innovation, and we're honored to celebrate alongside the prestigious MICHELIN and Bib Gourmand award winners that shine a spotlight on the diversity of the city’s cuisine.”
In the inspector-informed MICHELIN Guide selections, one MICHELIN Star signifies high quality cooking worth a stop, two Stars signify excellent cuisine worth a detour, and three Stars signify exceptional cuisine worth a special journey all its own. The city’s latest MICHELIN Star and Bib Gourmand recipients represent the next generation of culinary talent making their mark on Los Angeles and comes on the heels of Los Angeles taking home the most amount of James Beard Foundation Award winners of any city, which were announced earlier in June 2023. New chef talents are taking traditional, nostalgic flavors from their unique backgrounds, delivering them to diners with a contemporary spin, and producing impressive new flavors that have become emblematic of what is exciting about the Los Angeles dining scene.
The MICHELIN Guide inspectors also found four new Los Angeles area restaurants worthy of the Bib Gourmand designation, which recognizes exceptional food at a great value. Bib Gourmand restaurants offer a full menu comprising a starter, main course and dessert, making it possible to order two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $49 USD or less (tax and gratuity not included). Los Angeles honorees include Southeast Asian restaurant Cobi’s, Villa’s Tacos, Eat Joy Food, and Carnes Asadas Pancho Lopez.
Celebrated Chef Philip Pretty’s restaurant Heritage and Chef Michael Cimarusti's restaurant Providence were awarded MICHELIN Green Stars, an annual recognition of restaurants at the forefront of sustainable practices. The Sustainability Distinction for MICHELIN Green Starred restaurants promotes the chefs who have taken responsibility by preserving resources and embracing biodiversity, reducing food waste and reducing the consumption of non-renewable energy.
