A class of mixed media exploration in sketchbooks while learning how to observe the world around you.
WEEK 1 - Quick review of materials for the class:
Watercolor/gouache basics
Exercises on how to layer wet (watercolor, gouache, inks) & dry materials (color pencil, oil pastels, carandache)
Sketches of the Italian countryside!
WEEK 2 - Composition & Thumbnails
Create 3 thumbnails based on reference photos
Choose one of them to create a mini painting
References will be themed to a virtual trip to Mexico
WEEK 3 - Color Theory Exploration
Exercises on how to use the color wheel
Create mini paintings of a still life staged before them expressing understandings of analogous and complimentary color palettes
WEEK 4 - building in all the prior weeks into new finished sketches
revisit the Italian countryside sketches applying a warm underpainting
revisit Mexico with a cool underpainting
