Innovative Choreographer Laurie Sefton Premieres
How We Wear Our Art

A groundbreaking multidisciplinary performance blending tattoo, dance, music, film, sculpture, and fashion

Los Angeles, CA – Acclaimed choreographer and director Laurie Sefton will debut How We Wear Our Art, an ambitious new work exploring the body as both canvas and storyteller. The project—three years in development—brings together tattooing, live music, fashion, film, sculpture, and dance to illuminate how art lives on and within us. Performances take place October 17–18, 2025, at LA Dance Project.

How We Wear Our Art is a collaborative work with:

• Music: Composer Bryan Curt Kostors, who has created a 14-track live score incorporating instruments, percussion, synthesizers, and samples from nature, technology, and archival recordings, which will be played live.
• Sculpture: Visual artist Andy Bright, known for his long-time collaborations with Isabella Rossellini, has designed a monumental, evolving set piece exploring the body as both internal experience and societal symbol.
• Film: Filmmaker Michael Higgins contributes an original film documenting tattoo artist Reiley Johnson’s creative process, underscoring the visceral intimacy of body art.
• Fashion: Canadian designer Sophie Isabella Popham has created custom knitted costumes that veil, frame, and reveal the dancers’ bodies, reflecting choices of concealment, exposure, and celebration.

Sefton has been hailed as “one of Los Angeles’s most gifted choreographers,” with work described as “a perfect example of artistic freedom, imaginative introspection, and complex compilations.” Her choreography has been presented at venues including Walt Disney Concert Hall, Zawirowania International Dance Festival, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, Rocky Mountain Choreography Festival, and ArtYard. Recently, she served as Assistant Director and Choreographer for Onward, a theater/dance work by Isabella Rossellini and Andy Bright.
