Ali Sethi

Ali Sethi blends traditional South Asian melodies with global beats, fusing traditional qawwali, ghazals, and modern influences. The New York-based Pakastani artist’s 2022 single “Pasoori” with Shae Gill topped Spotify’s Global Viral chart and was declared Google’s most hum-to-search song of the year. Mixing a traditional raga with reggaeton into what Sethi calls “ragaton,” “Pasoori” carries a message love and joy that crosses cultural boundaries and musical styles. Sethi followed that hit up with his 2023 Intiha, a collaboration with Nicolás Jaar that Pitchfork praised for its songs “rooted in classic Sufi poetry with electronic abstraction [that] blur lines between cultures and eras in a moving tribute to the multiplicity of identity.”
