Argentina and Chile will face off in a friendly international super rematch hosted by Hit Song® Productions. This will be the first international soccer game played at the renovated stadium, which underwent a multi-million-dollar makeover. The two countries feature some of the best and most recognizable players in the world and will face each other on the heels of Copa America, that left Argentina in third place after a 2-1 victory over Chile. This also marks the first time the teams play each other in the U.S. since the 2016 Copa America Centenario when Chile defeated the Argentine squad 4-2 on penalty kicks.

Under the leadership of coach Lionel Scaloni, Argentina has garnered seven victories, three losses and two ties. This year, the team played three friendlies. The first on March 22 in Madrid where it lost to Venezuela 3-1. Four days later, in Morroco, it defeated the local team 1-0, and in Argentina it defeated Honduras 5-1. In Brazil, the national team took third place in Copa America, defeating Chile 2-1. AFA boasts Lionel Messi, often considered the best player in the world and widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. Messi currently leads a 10-man shortlist of nominees in the running to be named The Best FIFA Men's Player for 2019.

Coach Reinaldo Rueda took the team’s helm in January 2018. Under his leadership, this year the team has obtained three victories, four losses and two ties. The team played three friendlies, defeating Haiti 2-1 in Chile; while it tied with the U.S. in Houston and lost to Mexico 3-1 in San Diego. In Copa America it advanced to the semi-finals after beating Colombia 5-4 in a penalty shootout but lost to Peru and ended in fourth place after a 2-1 loss with Argentina. Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal was recently selected for the Copa América best XI as chosen by the Technical Study Group of the South American Soccer Confederation.
