For movie fans, outdoor movies in Los Angeles are the best of all worlds: classic films and modern hits are shown on a big screen under the stars, along with plenty of delicious food and drinks. And thanks to LA's great weather, the outdoor movie season runs well into fall. Gather your friends and enjoy an "endless summer" of entertainment with our guide to the best outdoor movies in LA.

Cinespia



Cinespia hosts classic films and modern favorites at historic locations across LA. Upcoming screenings at the famed Hollywood Forever Cemetery include Gremlins (July 22), Valley Girl (July 29), The Neverending Story (Aug. 5), Pretty Woman (Aug. 12), Kill Bill 1 + 2 All-Nighter (Aug. 19) and Poltergeist (Aug. 26).

On July 21, Cinespia presents The Fifth Element at Los Angeles State Historic Park in Downtown LA.

Hollywood Bowl



Movie nights are some of the most popular events at the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, from the annual John Williams: Maestro of the Movies to the perennial favorite Sing-Along Sound of Music on September 16.

Featuring live accompaniment by the LA Phil and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Bowl's 2023 movie screenings include: 2001: A Space Odyssey, featuring the Los Angeles Master Chorale (Aug. 3); Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Concert (Aug. 4-5) and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (Sept. 1-2).

La La Land in Concert - LA State Historic Park - September 16, 2023

Street Food Cinema



Featuring a wide range of films, gourmet food trucks and live music, Street Food Cinema presents Saturday night screenings at outdoor locations from The Autry Museum to Los Angeles State Historic Park, Will Rogers State Historic Park, and Verdugo Park in Glendale.

Upcoming screenings at The Autry include The Parent Trap (Aug. 19), Almost Famous (Aug. 26), Pokémon: The First Movie (Sept. 2), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Sept. 9) and Toy Story (Sept. 16)

LA State Historic Park is hosting La La Land in Concert on September 16. A special Latino Heritage Month screening of Selena is taking place at The Ford on September 23 - the night of celebration will feature Selena-inspired music performances.

The Hollywood Roosevelt



Tropicana Movie Nights returns to the landmark Hollywood Roosevelt! Screening at the famed David Hockney pool, the series features movies filmed in LA.

August features "Modern LA Noir" - The Big Lebowski (Aug. 1), The Usual Suspects (Aug. 8), Pulp Fiction (Aug. 15), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Aug. 22) and The Nice Guys (Aug. 29).

Laugh it up in September with "HaHaHollywood" - Fletch (Sept. 5), The Naked Gun (Sept. 12), I Love You Man (Sept. 19) and Swingers (Sept. 26).

Advance tickets at Eventbrite are required. Doors open at 7pm, movie starts at 8:30pm. Food and drink available to order at the bar to be delivered to your table. The Montalban Theatre



Located near the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine, The Montalbán kicked off its 2023 Rooftop Movies season with Rogue One. Upcoming screenings include The Thing (July 20), Lost in Translation (July 21), The Shining (July 22), Cinema Paradiso (July 27), Dirty Dancing (July 28), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (July 29), Total Thrash: The Teutonic Story (July 30), Pan's Labyrinth (Aug. 3), Y Tu Mama Tambien (Aug. 10), The Wedding Singer (Aug. 12), Amores Perros (Aug. 17), Blade Runner (Aug. 18), Pretty Woman (Aug. 19), Mad Max (Aug. 24), The Lost Boys (Aug. 25), Her (Aug. 26), Parasite (Aug. 31), Fargo (Sept. 1), The Notebook (Sept. 2) and Let the Right One In (Oct. 5).

The Montalbán’s rooftop OASIS is outfitted with a bar, concession stand, and kitchen. Doors for each screening open at 6pm, with the feature film starting 10 minutes after sunset (8pm).

Tickets cost $28 for regular admission and include headset rental and popcorn. Pricing is $58 for a double seat (aka loveseat), which includes headsets, bottomless popcorn and champagne toast.

Melrose Rooftop Theatre - E.P. & L.P.



Located on the rooftop adjacent to the patio at E.P. & L.P., the Melrose Rooftop Theatre (MRT) offers an unforgettable outdoor cinema experience with the Hollywood Hills as the stunning backdrop. MRT features a state-of-the-art Da-Lite 16’ x 9’ screen, wireless headphones, classic concessions and bean bag seats.

Dive-In Movies - The Garland



Located in North Hollywood just minutes from Universal Studios Hollywood, The Garland mixes a vintage SoCal vibe with 21st century chic. The hotel was originally opened by actress Beverly Garland, best known for her role as Fred MacMurray's wife on the final three seasons of My Three Sons.

Situated at the heart of this lush urban oasis, the pool offers a retreat from the hustle and bustle of LA along with Dive-In Movies, where kids of all ages can enjoy a classic flick starting at sundown from Wednesday to Sunday.

Movies On The Roof (July 7 – Aug. 12, 2023)



Taking place every weekend from July 7 to August 12, Movies On The Roof offers an alfresco summer movie experience at Westfield Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks. The screenings include comfortable seating, state-of-the-art projection and sound, and Valley views in an upscale event space on the parking garage rooftop.

Tickets are $10 and includes complimentary popcorn and water, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Hope the Mission, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent, reduce, and eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness.

The season kicked off with Clueless - which was also filmed at Westfield Fashion Square - and Top Gun: Maverick, with DC League of Super Pets (July 22), and an Indiana Jones movie weekend (Aug. 4 -5) coming up. Arrive early to the screening and enjoy live music from local musicians, raffle giveaways, lawn games and more!

Outdoor Movie Night - Jamaica Bay Inn



Located in Marina del Rey, Jamaica Bay Inn is hosting Outdoor Movie Night, a FREE outdoor movie series taking place on their beachfront lawn every Sunday.

Upcoming screenings include Mama Mia (June 4), Clifford (June 11), Space Jam: A New Legacy (June 18) and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (June 25), School of Rock (July 2), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (July 9), Grown Ups (July 16), Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (July 23), and Legally Blonde (July 30).

Seating starts at 7pm and is first-come, first-served. The movie starts at dusk. Low chairs, blankets and pillows are welcome. High camping style chairs are not allowed. $4 off half-bottle red or white wine; picnic pack and full menu will be available for purchase. RSVP at Eventbrite.

Located in northern L.A. County, Castaic Lake is the largest state water project reservoir in Southern California, with more than 11,000 acres of parkland and open space habitat.

For a truly unique night at the movies, head out to Castaic Lake for Boat Cinema, presented in partnership with the Dept. of Parks & Recreation. Rent an electric mini-boat for up to five people (combined 850 lb weight limit) to enjoy LA's first and only on-the-water film experience. Or bring your own beach chairs, towels or blankets and enjoy the movie from the beach.

Nautical-themed screenings include Jaws (Sept. 9), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl (July 9), Sharknado (Aug. 4) and The Little Mermaid (Aug. 13).

Food & Beverage Add-Ons include prepared picnics, charcuterie boxes, an artisan pizza delivered to your boat, Bucket o' Beer, bottle of wine, and BYOP (Bring Your Own Picnic) with a corkage fee. Reserved Table Service (beach seating only) serves up to six people and includes waitstaff service throughout the evening.
