As we celebrate another banner year for L.A.’s tourism industry with an all-time record 47.3 million visitors, I’d like to recognize all of you – our local hospitality community. It’s your endless commitment to the Los Angeles visitor experience that makes our dynamic city truly one of the world’s premier travel destinations.
Looking ahead, the stage is set for an incredible 2017 as global interest and desire for the L.A. experience is skyrocketing. Our culinary scene – one of the most important travel decision drivers – is thriving. Don’t forget, dineL.A. is underway with more than 300 of the city’s exciting restaurants are offering specially priced menus through Friday, January 27. There’s incredible demand for our world-class attractions and cultural institutions as confirmed by the forthcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art choosing L.A. as home.
We continue to be the epicenter of the sports and entertainment world. Mega-events like NHL All-Star Weekend later this month will shine bright in L.A.’s spotlight. The NFL’s Chargers have officially joined L.A.’s storied collection of professional sports franchises. And hopefully, the world’s greatest sporting celebration – Olympic and Paralympic Games – will come back home to Los Angeles for a third time in 2024.
2017 is also officially the “U.S. and India Travel and Tourism Partnership Year.” We established representation in India last year and look forward to increasing visitation from our second-fastest growing international market this year and beyond.
Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones and are well positioned for surpassing 50 million visitors to Los Angeles by 2020.
