Discover L.A.’s Australia office has been nominated for ‘Best International Tourist Office’ for the 2017 Australian Federation of Travel Agents National Travel Industry Awards – AFTA NTIA. The nomination was received by members of the tourism industry who will then vote for the 5 nominated tourism boards. Regional Director Craig Gibbons remarked “We are greatly humbled by this nomination and grateful that our local industry appreciates all the work we do in market to promote L.A. and even more so that we are a small team that has been nominated alongside state and national tourism bodies”.

Voting is now open with the Awards taking place on July 22 in Sydney.

Hainan Airlines launched the only nonstop service between LAX and the giant city of Chongqing, China, a booming manufacturing city with a metropolitan area of over 30 million people famous for its world-renowned hot pot and spicy cuisine. Chongqing is on the Yangtze River, a major cruise terminus, with its beautiful Three Gorges. This is the first time Chongqing has ever had a nonstop flight to North America.

The two citywides and 11 local events hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center during January 2017 brought 251,700 attendees to the LACC and generated an estimated $35 million in economic impact for the City of Los Angeles.

January 2017 TOT General Fund receipts totaled $19.1 million, bringing the fiscal year to date total to $152.3 million. This is $11.3 million higher than the year to date adopted budget and $19.8 million, or 15.0%, higher than the same time last year.
