IPW – Washington DC
IPW, the travel industry's premier international marketplace and the largest generator of Visit USA travel, was held June 3-7, 2017 in Washington D.C. L.A. Tourism’s International Tourism team conducted more than 200 scheduled one-on-one appointments with tour operators, wholesalers, MICE buyers, receptive operators and airlines from both international and domestic markets. The team highlighted L.A.’s new hotels and attractions as well as provided updates on public transportation and LAX’s modernization program. In addition to the scheduled appointments, the International Tourism team co-hosted a Chinese Buyers Breakfast, in partnership with Brand USA and Marriott International, where L.A. Tourism President & CEO Ernest Wooden Jr. delivered a welcome speech. The team also co-hosted a reception with Visit California themed as “Dreaming.” More than 6,400 industry professionals attended this year’s IPW.
ILTM Asia 2017 – Shanghai
L.A. Tourism’s offices in China and Australia co-exhibited at ILTM Asia 2017 in Shanghai June 5 - 8, 2017 to promote the destination’s luxury tourism products. The team conducted a combined 119 pre-scheduled one-on-one appointments with travel trade representatives during the three-day tradeshow, providing updates on L.A.’s newest luxury hotels and products including the new LAX VIP suite. A total 500 luxury travel trade buyers from 26 Asian-Pacific regions and countries attended ILTM Asia 2017.
ITE Hong Kong
L.A. Tourism’ Guangzhou office joined Brand USA to exhibit at International Tourism Expo (ITE) 2017, the most influential travel fair in Hong Kong, June 15-17, 2017. Staff conducted 100 appointments with top travel agents from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, providing updates on direct air service, LAX's modernization, L.A.'s newest attractions including Petersen Automotive Museum, The Broad, OUE Skyspace LA, as well as upcoming events like dineL.A. and NBA All-Star.
Tuniu.com & Hainan Airlines Promotion
L.A. Tourism’s Chengdu office participated in a co-op promotion with Tuniu & Hainan Airlines on June 17, 2017 to celebrate Hainan Airlines’ newly launched flight from Chengdu to Los Angeles. A total 120 top members of Tuniu.com attended the event where they also received L.A.’s latest happenings and destination updates.
Tuniu Roadshow in Chongqing
In partnership with Tuniu Travel - one of China’s leading OTAs, L.A. Tourism’s China office hosted a Chongqing roadshow on June 24 to promote Hainan Airlines' new service from Chongqing to LAX. More than 200 of Tuniu’s most valuable clients received updates on LAX and L.A.’s newest attractions. Staff also introduced Hainan’s new air service from Chongqing, the region’s first non-stop flight to North America.
L.A. Salon with Zuzuche.com
L.A. Tourism’s Guangzhou office, in partnership with Zuzuche.com (a global-oriented car rental platform), co-hosted a media conference and offline L.A. salon event at Four Seasons Guangzhou on June 24, 2017. Staff delivered a presentation about the convenience of self-driving in L.A.; LAX’s modernization and terminal relocation; and updates on L.A.’s newest attractions, events, hotels. A total 12 media and 120 self-driving fans from Zuzuche attended the event. Zuzuche.com has operations in more than 200 countries and regions with 60,000 local branches including LAX.
US Consulate General Shanghai Roadshows
L.A. Tourism’s Shanghai office joined roadshows organized by US Consulate General Shanghai June 26-29, 2017 in Jiangsu. A total 219 operation, product and sales managers from seven tour operators attended the roadshows, which included the cities of Nanjing, Wuxi and Suzhou. Staff delivered updates on L.A.’s latest happenings and newest attractions.
Travel Bulletin Luxury Showcase
L.A. Tourism’s Europe office participated in the Travel Bulletin Luxury Showcase event in Cambridge. More than 80 travel agents attended the show where L.A. Tourism’s Hayley French provided updates on L.A.’s luxury products and the latest destination happenings.
National Day Reception
In celebration of the 241st anniversary of U.S. Independence Day, L.A. Tourism’s France office hosted a National Day reception at the Gardens of the Ambassador’s residency on June 29. As co-sponsors of ‘4th of July’ ceremony, L.A. Tourism invited three VIP travel trade operators including representatives from Evaneos, Travel Lab SAS, Visiteurs.
HanaTour International Travel Show
L.A. Tourism’s Korea representative exhibited at HanaTour International Travel Show in Seoul, South Korea June 8 – 11, 2017. The booth was shared with Visit California and San Francisco Travel at the Brand USA pavilion. Ms. Yae Hwon Kim met with travel trade and distributed Korean Pocket Guide, MTPG, LAX Airline Location Map as well as ‘LAX is Happening’ fact sheets during the show. HanaTour International Travel Show is the largest travel expo in South Korea and has been ranked as the market’s number one travel company for the past 15 years.
Visit CA France Visiteurs FAM
L.A. Tourism’s International Tourism team hosted the Visit California France Visiteurs FAM for lunch at Grand Central Market on Saturday, June 24. The 25 FAM participants consisted of 20 top travel agents from France as well as representatives from Visit California France, Visiteurs and XL Airways. The group took the Metro from Hollywood & Highland to Downtown L.A. using TAP cards provided by L.A. Tourism and then enjoyed a team scavenger hunt throughout Downtown. The FAM group also experienced Universal Studios Hollywood before flying back to Paris from LAX on XL Airways.
Travel Counsellors Conference
L.A. Tourism’s Australia office exhibited at the annual Travel Counsellors conference in Melbourne, Australia June 2-3, 2017. Travel Trade Manager Carolyn Nightingale conducted a training seminar focusing on L.A. hotel development, LAX improvements and L.A. selling tools. The two-day conference was attended by 150 Travel Counsellors travel agents and is one of the largest home-based agency groups across Australia.
dineL.A. Traditional Media Preview
To celebrate the return of Summer dineL.A. taking place July 14-28, L.A. Tourism’s PR team hosted a media preview at The Bellwether in Studio City on June 27. The event included an interactive cooking demo led by Chef Hopson as he showcased his Summer dineL.A. x California Avocado menu items. Seven local journalists attended including Food Network, CBS Los Angeles and SoCalPulse. Additionally, two journalists from San Francisco attended, representing NBC San Francisco and San Francisco Chronicle/SF Gate. Media coverage highlighting the event is expected to post within the coming weeks ahead of Summer dineL.A.
