INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL TRADE FAMS, TRADE SHOWS & EVENTS

Chinese Luxury Travel Agency FAM


L.A. Tourism’s International Tourism team, along with Visit California, Santa Monica Tour & Travel and Visit West Hollywood, hosted a group FAM of Luxury Travel Agency owners/directors from China Mar. 24 – 27, 2017. Group members were also panelists for the Visit California and L.A. Tourism Global Ready China seminar. The group’s educational itinerary focus on L.A.’s luxury offerings and showcased only-in-L.A. experiences including the Petersen Automotive Museum, a tour of STAPLES Center, Orbic Helicopter Tours, and OUE Skyspace LA.  Accommodations were provided by InterContinental Los Angeles Century City. L.A. Tourism thanks all participating partners.

ITB Berlin


L.A. Tourism’s Germany office attended ITB, the annual trade show in Berlin, March 8-12, 2017. L.A. Annette conducted more than 25 scheduled-appointments and help ad-hoc conversations about new L.A. product, attractions, hotels, and LAX’s renovations. The world’s leading trade and consumer show boasts 26 halls with more than 10,000 exhibitors from 184 countries.

Visit California Etihad Airways Luxury FAM


L.A. Tourism’s International Tourism team hosted six high-level staff from leading tour operators and travel agencies in Saudi Arabia, an Etihad Airways representative, and a representative from Visit California for the Visit California Etihad Airways Luxury FAM from March 22nd to 23rd.  The group’s educational itinerary highlighted only-in-L.A. experiences including OCEAN PRIME, Petersen Automotive Museum, Hollywood & Highland, Dolby Theatre, and TCL Chinese Theatre. Accommodations were hosted by Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills.

L.A. Angels Salon
L.A. Tourism’s China offices co-organized three L.A. Angels Salon activities with Citadel Outlets in Beijing, Shanghai & Guangzhou Mar. 2—10, 2017. A total 37 trade representatives were invited to participate in the Salon where they were briefed on LAX's happenings, L.A.'s MICE resources, L.A.’s shopping, fashion, luxury products the latest happenings.

In-house Training at Yan Nan Fei Int'l Travel Service


L.A. Tourism’s Beijing office conducted an in-house training at Beijing Yan Nan Fei Int'l Travel Service on March 10, 2017. L.A. Tourism staff delivered a presentation about nonstop air service between LAX and China, LAX's terminals, and updates on L.A.’s attractions, events, dining, shopping. Established in 2005, Beijing Yan Nan Fei specializes in U.S. featured tours, tailor-made and high-end tours, medical tours and U.S. visa service.

Grand China MICE


L.A. Tourism’s Beijing office co-hosted a client appreciation reception with Grand China MICE to promote LAWA & L.A.'s MICE resources & products on March 15, 2017. A total 50 corporate MICE buyers from banking, insurance, cosmetics, direct sales and automobile industries attended the reception. During the event, China staff presented updates on L.A.'s routes network, LAX’s facilities, L.A. attractions, only-in-LA venues and MICE resources.

Hainan Airlines FAM


L.A. Tourism, in partnership with Hainan Airlines, organized a group FAM to coincide with the airline’s inaugural flight from Chengdu to L.A. March 15 –22, 2017. A total 20 VIPs including crew from Hainan, China's major southwest consumer travel trade and media participated in the educational trip. LAX held two ceremonies for the inaugural flights on Mar. 15 and Mar. 21. A welcome luncheon was hosted by Discover Los Angeles at Four Seasons Hotel Beverly Hills on Mar. 16, 2017 for the fam trip participants. The group’s educational FAM itinerary included Venice Beach, Universal Studios Hollywood, USS Battleship IOWA, OUE Skyspace LA, The Grove, The Original Farmers Market, The Getty Center and Griffith Observatory. Accommodations were hosted by Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel.

Hainan Airlines Launch  


L.A. Tourism, in partnership with Hainan Airlines, held a launch event for the airline’s new air service from Chongqing to LAX by Hainan Airlines on Mar. 21, 2017. The event in Chongqing attracted more than 120 governmental officials, media and trade representatives. L.A. Tourism’s China staff delivered a welcome speech to express appreciation and support of the new service.

Brand USA China Mission


L.A. Tourism’s China office participated in Brand USA’s China Mission in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Wuhan & Shenyang Mar. 27–31, 2017. A total 85 meetings were held to brief trade representatives about L.A.’s new hotel and attraction products including The Broad, Petersen Automotive Museum and OUE Skyspace LA. Filming locations of “LA LA LAND” such as Grand Central Market and Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood were also highlighted. L.A. Tourism’s China staff delivered a 15-minute presentation about L.A. tourism resources including LAX's latest happenings in Chengdu.  

L.A. Tourism in Australia & New Zealand

 
Excite Holidays – Eat, Stay, Love L.A Campaign
L.A. Tourism partnered with Australian wholesaler Excite Holidays to launch Eat, Stay, Love L.A., a two-week trade campaign across Australia & New Zealand March 6-19, 2017. The digital trade campaign showcased L.A.’s unique neighborhoods and hotel offerings while promoting LA’s dining scene and urban outdoor-wellness activities. L.A. Tourism’s Trade Manger Carolyn Nightingale joined Excite Holidays to visit top travel agency stores and keep them updated on the on L.A.’s hotel sales offerings throughout the campaign. For its launch, L.A. Tourism’s Australia team and Excite Holidays invited 60 top-selling travel agents to experience an L.A. training seminar with either yoga and breakfast on the beach or a hip-hop yoga class in Melbourne. Agents received an informative destination update on new L.A. hotel offerings, LAX renovations, upcoming attractions and events with a L.A. inspired dining menu of the latest superfoods. They were gifted their very own Discover Los Angeles-branded Yoga mat.

Know Your LAX - Travel Weekly Campaign
L.A. Tourism launched “Know Your LAX,” an online training module for travel agents, with trade media partner Travel Weekly Australia on March 14, 2017. The four-week incentivized trade campaign incorporated four key themes on LAX that L.A. Tourism actively promotes to the Australian trade in a mobile-enabled online game: Gateway to the USA, LAX terminals, LAX hotels & stop-overs and the future of LAX. Agents were encouraged to test their LAX knowledge by reading a series of online content pieces or videos and then compete against their colleagues across Australia with entries being timed. An online leader board showed which agent was the most knowledgeable about LAX. The top agent will win a trip to Los Angeles courtesy of L.A. Tourism, Hyatt Regency LAX and Qantas as well as a 1 year membership to the Qantas Club.

MTA Conference – Gold Coast, Australia


L.A. Tourism’s Australia Travel Trade Manager Carolyn Nightingale attended Mobile Travel Agents’ (MTA) annual staff conference on the Gold Coast March 24-26, 2017. L.A. Tourism participated in the participated in the supplier showcase and provided B2B training seminars to all agents in attendance focusing on new hotel development, LAX Airport renovations and sporting events. More than 220 MTA agents attended the 3-day conference along with 75 suppliers. MTA is one of Australia’s fastest growing mobile agency groups.

Pacific Standard Time Events


L.A. Tourism supported the Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA press events in London, Berlin and Paris.  The events were attended by press and prominent individuals from the arts and culture publications in the respective cities. Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA, is an exploration of Latin American and Latino art, in dialogue with Los Angeles.  A collaboration led by the Getty, Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA opens in September 2017 at cultural institutions across Southern California.

Visit California Korea & Japan Sales Mission


L.A. Tourism’s International Travel Trade team met with senior travel industry members from airlines, tour operators and travel agents in South Korea (Seoul) and Japan (Osaka and Tokyo) March 19 – 24, 2017.  The agenda included one-on-one meetings, networking receptions, VIP industry dinners, sales calls and seminar series held in each city.  L.A. Tourism highlighted “what’s new” in Los Angeles including new hotels, attractions, arts & culture, dining, shopping and new/expanding LAX air service. Partners on the mission included Universal Studios Hollywood, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Citadel Outlets and Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau.

Global Ready China


L.A. Tourism partnered with Visit California for Global Ready China, a seminar focused on delivering an in-depth look at the growing dynamic Chinese market to 115 members and partners on March 28, 2017. A panel of three leading industry experts from China discussed cultural nuances and etiquette, marketing strategies and the latest market trends including the luxury travel segment.  This was a great opportunity for members to learn how to attract, engage and maintain market share of Chinese visitors.

Henan Provincial Tourism Event


L.A. Tourism attended an exclusive reception hosted by the Henan Provincial Tourism Bureau on March 7, 2017 at Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles. A delegation led by Henan Provincial Tourism Bureau’s Director General Mr. Wujiang Kou shared various tourism resources and air service developments of Henan Province. During the event, L.A. Tourism shared L.A.’s record-breaking tourism data and the continuing efforts in the growing China market to the delegation.

Xiamen Airlines Route Event


L.A. Tourism attended Xiamen Airlines’ new route announcement and product promotion event on March 20, 2017. L.A. Tourism’s Senior Vice President of Business Affairs Patti MacJennet delivered a welcome speech and shared the latest air service developments at LAWA as well as L.A.’s tourism 2016 data. The new nonstop service will launch on June 27, 2017 and will operate 3-4 times a week.  

Swanson’s Travel USA Day


L.A. Tourism’s Scandinavia representative attended Swanson’s Travel USA Day in Osby, Sweden. Every year, the most awarded tour operator invites key partners and clients to Swanson’s Travel USA Day with nearly 1500 visitors. L.A. Tourism delivered two Los Angeles presentations in support of Swanson’s Travel and their effort to promote travel with SAS Airlines to L.A.

FDM Travel USA Day


L.A. Tourism’s Scandinavia representative attended FDM Travel USA Day in Copenhagen, Denmark. Each year, Denmark’s largest Tour Operator invites key partners and clients to FDM Travel USA Day with nearly 4,000 attendees. L.A. Tourism supported FDM in an effort to promote travel with SAS Airlines to L.A.

Discover America Denmark USA Travel Show


L.A. Tourism’s Scandinavia representative attended the Discover America Denmark USA Travel Show in Copenhagen, Denmark. Nearly 200 travel agents and media representatives from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland attended along with more than 50 U.S. tourism exhibitors. Several important partners like SAS, Norwegian, United and Air Berlin also participated.

Travel D’Or


L.A. Tourism’s France office, in partnership with Air Tahiti Nui, invited the airline’s best clients to "Travel d'Or," a gala dinner on March 30, 2017 for more than 600 travel professionals as DiscoverLosAngeles.com was nominated for best tourism board website.

Visit USA Unite


L.A. Tourism’s Europe office attended the Visit USA Unite workshop and met with 14 product managers from key U.K. tour operators. L.A. Tourism staff provided updates on new and existing Los Angeles product available to their clients.  

COMMUNICATIONS


L.A. Tourism supported a media FAM group in partnership with Hainan Airlines March 15 – 22, 2017. The group’s visit coincided with the airline’s new nonstop service launch from Chengdu Shaungliu International Airport and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. The group’s educational itinerary showcased only-in-L.A. experiences including Universal Studios Hollywood, OUE Skyspace LA, LACMA, Petersen Automotive Museum, The Grove, Original Farmers Market, Citadel Outlets, San Pedro, Battleship IOWA, whale watching tour at L.A. Waterfront, Walk of Fame, Rose Café, 14th Factory, Santa Monica, Getty Center and Newport Seafood. Accommodations were hosted by Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles Hotel.

L.A. Tourism’s PR team visited Seoul, South Korea and Osaka and Tokyo, Japan March 19 –25, 2017 for a media mission led by Visit California. Staff met with 48 journalists in South Korea and 105 journalists in Japan and discussed Los Angeles travel story opportunities including with major broadcast stations and publishing houses.  

L.A. Tourism’s PR team showcased L.A.’s culinary prowess at the James Beard Nomination Press Event on March 15 at a.o.c. restaurant in Mid-City and hosted eight journalists from the U.S., New Zealand, Australia and Mexico. The group dined at noteworthy and uniquely L.A. restaurants including Culina, Gjusta, Guelaguetza, Grand Central Market, Manuela and Le Comptoir. VIP culinary activities on the educational itinerary included a Yacht Adventure + Wine Tasting with Bikes and Hikes LA, macaron baking session and breakfast at Bouchon Bakery, Koreatown dessert crawl at Madang Mall with dineL.A.’s Stella Yeo, a seafood cooking class with Chef Michael Cimarusti at Cape Seafood and Provisions, a bike tour of the Arts District led by The Wheelhouse, a private tour of popular L.A.-based apron company Hedley & Bennett and Omakase style cocktails at Walker Inn. Accommodations were hosted by Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills and The LINE Hotel in Koreatown. Media coverage is expected to post within the coming months in media’s respective outlets.

The day before the LA Marathon, L.A. Tourism’s PR team hosted a one-day FAM trip for five domestic journalists with Sketchers Performance who ran the marathon. The educational itinerary included rooftop yoga at Los Angeles Athletic Club in Downtown L.A., brunch at Manuela, a short walking tour led by Cartwheel Art, beer tasting at Angel City Brewery and massages at the Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles Spa in preparation of the big day. Coverage is expected to appear in their respective outlets: Shape, Self (online), Men’s Journal, Women’s Running and Inc. Magazine.
L.A. Tourism’s PR team hosted Craig Outhier, Editor-in-Chief of Phoenix Magazine as he explored Los Angeles March 6–9 to research a cover story for L.A. The focus of Craig’s trip was health and wellness, along with filming locations from “LA LA Land.” The L.A. cover story will appear in the May issue of Phoenix Magazine. Accommodations were hosted by Beach House Hermosa Beach and Loews Hollywood Hotel.
