Get Connected with the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Line

Visitors and locals alike will soon have a new way of getting to and from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Scheduled to open in 2020, the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Line will extend from the existing Metro E Line (Expo) at Crenshaw and Exposition Boulevards. The Crenshaw/LAX Line will travel 8.5 miles to the Metro C Line (Green) and will serve the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood and El Segundo; and portions of unincorporated Los Angeles County.

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project will serve the Crenshaw District, Inglewood, Westchester and surrounding area with eight stations:

1. Expo/Crenshaw
2. Martin Luther King Jr.
3. Leimert Park
4. Hyde Park
5. Fairview Heights
6. Downtown Inglewood
7. Westchester/Veterans
8. Aviation/Century

Located near Aviation Boulevard and 96th Street, the Airport Metro Connector Station will connect the Crenshaw/LAX Line with LAX via an Automated People Mover (APM).

The APM is part of the $5.5-billion Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) that will give airport guests choices that provide a first-class, swift, convenient, and reliable way to access LAX.

To coincide with the opening of the Crenshaw/LAX Line, Destination Crenshaw is a 1.3-mile long "outdoor art and culture experience celebrating Black Los Angeles." The project will use Crenshaw Boulevard as a canvas and anchor for public art and streetscape design. Destination Crenshaw will "celebrate the historical and contemporary contributions of Black LA and the Crenshaw community—the largest black community west of the Mississippi River."

Led by renowned architecture firm Perkins&Will, the project will include community gathering spaces, parks, landscape and streetscape improvements, and hundreds of locations for commissioned artwork.

The new Downtown Inglewood Station will be located just two miles from SoFi Stadium, the future home of the Los Angeles Rams and L.A. Chargers that's opening in the summer of 2020. Located on the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack in Inglewood, the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium is the centerpiece of a 298-acre mixed-use development featuring retail, commercial office space, a hotel, residential units, and outdoor park spaces.

The first indoor-outdoor stadium to be constructed, SoFi Stadium will host Super Bowl LVI in 2022, the College Football Championship Game in 2023, and co-host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games in 2028. The Los Angeles Bowl, a postseason college football game between the Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences, will debut at SoFi Stadium in the fall of 2020.

Taylor Swift will kick off the stadium's inaugural year of events with Lover Fest West on July 25 and 26. With these two concerts, Swift will become the first woman in history to open an NFL stadium.

Part of the proposed Inglewood Transit Connector, a new people mover would provide a convenient connection to-and-from the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Line directly to the new entertainment district, as well as The Forum and the proposed Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center (Los Angeles Clippers).

Leimert Park will be another stop on the Metro Crenshaw/LAX Line. Dubbed “the black Greenwich Village” by the late filmmaker John Singleton, the historic neighborhood of Leimert Park is widely regarded as L.A.’s cultural hub for African Americans. From Ella Fitzgerald to Ray Charles, notable Angelenos have called this neighborhood home since the area was developed in the 1920s.

You can find some of L.A.’s finest art at Mark Bradford’s Art + Practice; a literary pit stop for Presidents Obama and Clinton (Eso Won Books); an open mic youth workshop at Kaos Network visited by Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube; as well as a variety of dining options.
