The Best Places for a Quick Bite in the Arts District

Dining in the Arts District isn't quite like any other neighborhood in Los Angeles. There isn't much in the way of fast food here. Instead, it's a hub for gastropubs and small chains with hip takes on classic grub. If you're up for trying something unusual - rattlesnake and rabbit sausage or avocado and strawberry sherbet - this is the place to go. Vegetarians and vegans will be delighted to find that there are multiple meal options here too.

Arts District Brewing Co.

Arts District Brewing Company is a brewpub that produces a variety of beers on site. The expansive drink menu goes beyond the house brews and includes other indie beers as well as cocktails. The food here is served up by neighboring restaurant Fritzi Coop and focuses on bar-friendly grub like fried chicken sandwiches and a poutine variation made with curly fries and tater tots smothered in cheese and chicken gravy. Sunday brunch offers beer and an omelette for $10. When you visit, stick around to play skeeball (free on Mondays) and other games.

Eat Drink Americano

Eat Drink Americano is the kind of cafe that you're delighted to find when your feet have grown sore after walking around looking for murals in the Arts District. It's small, cozy and the chandelier made of wine bottles gives it a DIY charm. The berry lemonade is a delightful thirst-quencher for hot days and their lunch menu features filling, veggie-heavy flatbreads like the Popeye and Olive Oil, which is loaded with spinach.

Little Bear

If you're looking for Belgian beer, head to Little Bear. This Arts District gastropub puts Belgian and Belgian-style brews at the center of their heaving drink menu. The draft menu alone is impressive and it does rotate, so you'll either want to check out the website beforehand to see what's available, or go in looking for surprises. Beyond the beer, Little Bear serves brunch, lunch and dinner. Sandwiches and burgers are the main focus here. Whether you're coming for a meal or just a snack to go with a round of drinks, you'll want to get the Belgian fries, which you can order plain or with parmesan and truffle oil.

The shepherd's pie is rich comfort food and the roasted veggie feta pot pie is a delicious combination of American and Mediterranean flavors. Dessert pies are sold by the slice and the strawberry rhubarb and s'mores pies are must-tries, if available. The menu does change seasonally and you can keep up-to-date on what's in the shop by following them on social media. If you want a whole pie, order in advance. The Pie Hole also serves specialty drinks like Dirty Chai Latte, House Made Lemonade and Pie Hole Blend coffee.

Pizzanista!

If you're looking for a quick lunch, Pizzanista! is the place to go. Located next to Tony's Saloon, the Arts District pizza parlor serves large, tasty slices of pie at reasonable prices. The white and Margherita pizzas are worth the trip, but they also have more unusual choices like Macaroni & Cheese Pizza, which is only available on Sundays. Pizzanista! has various specials, including $2 Tuesdays and Wasted Wednesdays. On the latter, beer pitchers and wine bottles are half-off with food purchases. If you're staying within two miles of the restaurant, they'll deliver. Otherwise, you'll have to use an outside app.

Wurstküche

If you're looking for late-night eats, Wurstküche has your back. The Arts District sausage shop is open until 1:30 a.m., making it an ideal stop after a local bar crawl. These aren't your ordinary sausages - Wursküche specializes in unusual flavors like the mango jalapeño with chicken and turkey, and a Mediterranean-influenced lamb sausage. Daring eaters can try rattlesnake and rabbit with jalapeño peppers. Those who are less adventurous might want to stick with bratwurst or Hot Italian styles. There are vegetarian options too. Don't miss the fries, which come with your choice of flavorful dips.
