Mayor Eric Garcetti has announced that Tuesday, April 25, 2017 is officially La La Land Day in Los Angeles. The dedication ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will take place at City Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will feature a live jazz band and vertical dance troupe, BANDALOOP, which will perform a medley inspired by the film. La La Land Day coincides with the Academy Award-winning film's release on DVD and Blu-ray.
Scheduled to appear at the ceremony: Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle, Oscar-winning composer Justin Hurwitz, Oscar-winning production designers David Wasco and Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, choreographer Mandy Moore, and L.A.-based jewelry designer Kyle Chan, who created the green onyx pendant and earrings worn by Emma Stone in the film.
The festivities will continue all day with additional activities taking place throughout the city:
Grand Central Market will host a La La Land dance lesson at 10 a.m. and Sarita’s Pupuseria, the site of Mia and Sebastian’s first date, is featuring a La La Land photo op with the stools they sat on in the movie.
3rd Street Dance will offer a La La Land themed Dance Class at 7 p.m. at their studio, located at 8558 W. 3rd St.
Kyle Chan Design will display the jewelry that Academy Award® winning Best Actress Emma Stone wears in the film. The first three people to come in and buy La La Land jewelry will take home a copy of the Blu-ray. Kyle Chan Design is located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd. Suite 114.
Brits in LA will host a “Brits in La La Land” Breakfast at Cecconi's West Hollywood on La La Land Day and give away free breakfast to the first 20 people who share an image that best represents #LaLaLand to them and why. Cecconi's is located at 8764 Melrose Ave.
The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) will have their final day of displaying La La Land costumes at their museum, along with the unveiling of the La La Land inspired costume design contest winner.
Located at 101 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood Public Library will host a La La Land themed activities hour at 4 p.m. for youth who want to express their creative side with La La Land activity sheets and coloring pages.
For one night only, jazz bars across the country will be transformed into “Seb’s” on April 25, including The Blind Donkey (the original location for “Seb’s” in the film), featuring live music, themed drinks and a full size Seb’s neon sign.
Additional L.A. bars will celebrate with La La Land themed nights featuring "enter to win" boxes with Blu-rays offered as prizes. Participating bars include:
- The Lighthouse Café – 30 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach
- No Vacancy – 1727 N. Hudson Ave., Hollywood
- Bar One – 12518 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood
The celebration will continue throughout the week, including a themed night at Paint & Sip (351 S. La Brea Ave, 2nd Fl.) on Friday, April 28; a Street Food Cinema screening at Los Angeles State Historic Park on Saturday, April 29; and a lamppost dedication ceremony at the Hermosa Beach Pier on Sunday, April 30.
