A Note from Ernie - September 2018

President and CEO Ernest Wooden Jr., LATCB

Dear Friends,

As the summer season comes to a close, I would like to highlight a few key industry results that reinforces the strength of tourism in Los Angeles.

Travelers to Los Angeles generated $299 million in cumulative transient occupancy tax collections for the City’s General Fund in Fiscal Year 17-18, a 12.6% increase from the previous year’s total of $265 million. One of the city’s fastest growing revenue streams, these funds will continue to be vital to paying for services we residents rely on every single day.

Tourism continues to be a powerful job creator. L.A. County’s Leisure & Hospitality sector reported the largest month-to-month increase with 6,400 new jobs in July 2018. Compared to July 2017, the sector grew by 28,500 jobs, representing the largest increase across all 11 super sectors.

We’ll host our final Member Mixer for the year at OUE Skyspace LA on Thursday, October 25. A wonderful member benefit, please join us for a fun evening of networking with fellow industry peers and our L.A. Tourism team. Be sure to RSVP via the invitation that will be sent to your inbox very soon.

These are just a few of the many updates on L.A. Tourism and our industry that we’re sharing with you in September’s newsletter. As always, we will be here, working on behalf of all of our members and partners to keep the world coming to Los Angeles.

Best wishes,
Ernest Wooden Jr.
