A Note from Ernie - September 2017

President and CEO Ernest Wooden Jr., LATCB

Dear Friends,

Earlier this week, the City of Los Angeles hosted the World Tourism Cities Federation’s 2017 Fragrant Hills Tourism Summit. We proudly welcomed the Acting Mayor of Beijing Dr. Chen, Chairman of China National Tourism Administration Mr. Li as well as thirty mayors and vice mayors of WTCF’s member cities to promote friendly exchange and cooperation among the world’s tourism cities and intuitions.
At the Summit, the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board signed a tripartite partnership agreement with Qingdao Municipal Commission of Tourism Development and Xiamen Airlines to share marketing practices and lessons learned. We are all excited with the upcoming launch of Xiamen Airlines non-stop service between Qingdao and LAX this December, creating a convenient air bridge between our two cities.

I’d like to express congratulations to our partners at the Los Angeles Convention Center as they reported an economic impact of $781 million for the City of Los Angeles in fiscal 2016/2017 with $478 million attributed to convention attendees spending. The Convention Center is a major drive of economic activity for the City and we have worked closely with our partners to increase event bookings each and every year.

These are just a few of the many updates on L.A. Tourism and our industry we have for you this month. As always, we’ll be here, working on behalf of all our members and partners to keep the world coming to Los Angeles.

Best wishes,
