A Note from Ernie - November 2018
Dear Friends,
I hope everyone’s Thanksgiving was filled with abundance and bright moments among friends and family. One of my cherished times of the year, the holidays have arrived, and our L.A. Tourism team is hard at work promoting the events and activities of the season to travelers headed to sunny Los Angeles for a winter escape.
Tourism continues to be a strong revenue generator for the City of Los Angeles. During the month of October, travelers generated $25.8 million in transient occupancy tax collections for the general fund, bringing the fiscal year year-to-date total to $112.6 million. One of the city’s fastest growing revenue streams, this total is 8.4% higher compared to the same time last year.
We also powering more jobs than ever before. The county’s leisure & hospitality sector reported the largest increase of jobs with 24,700 new jobs between October 2017 and October 2018 as well as the largest year-over-year percentage increase with 4.6%.
Don’t forget, we’ll be hosting a holiday party for our Members with our partner Westfield at The Cocoa Cabin at Westfield century City on December 4. Join us for an evening full of hors d'oeuvres and beverages, networking and experience an insider’s look at Cocoa With Santa, Westfield Century City’s premier holiday event. Please be sure to RSVP via the official evite.
These are just a few of the many updates on L.A. Tourism and our industry that we’re sharing with you in this month’s newsletter. As always, we will be here, working on behalf of all of our members and partners to keep the world coming to Los Angeles.
Best wishes,
Ernest Wooden Jr.
