It’s Mexican-hip at Malo Taqueria Chicana, a neighborhood standby that won the “Best Margarita 2006” award from Citysearch. And it’s easy to see why. Considering the selection of more than 150 tequilas, there’s a lot of quality to choose from. The fare is vintage Mexican, but with a twist: the most famous dish offered here is the ground beef-and-pickle tacos, which provide just enough of a vinegar aftertaste to keep you going back for more. The décor is pobre-chick, almost reminiscent of a red-flocked bordello (the kind that later becomes a fine restaurant). The best accompaniment to one of those killer margaritas? Some chips (fried to order) and a bowl of super-fresh guacamole.
