Fletcher and Larga, Los Angeles, CA
Get out your paddle and get on the river! You won't want to miss this unique new urban experience in the heart of Los Angeles. Kayak, canoe or paddleboard your way into local history books when you shoot the rapids, round the buoys and sprint to the finish in this first-ever event of its kind.
The course tests contestants in speed, strength, endurance and water craft control.
One hundred experienced and intermediate canoeists, kayakers and SUPers will tackle a 3/4-mile stretch of the Glendale Narrows in a race for glory (and cool T-shirts and swag). Contestants compete in various age- and skill-level categories for awards and other prizes.
The LA River Boat Race course (which includes the LA River Kayak Race and the LA River SUP Challenge) cuts through the newly opened Recreational Zone in the lovely Elysian Valley, one of the greenest sections of the river.
Space is limited to just 100 participants; first 25 sign-ups receive a special kayak keychain.
Please note that this event is for intermediate and experienced paddlers only; SUPers need experience on Class-I or -II rapids.
Just another example of the creative ways folks are making use of the river as a revitalized public space. LA River Expeditions has pioneered recreational boating on the LA River since 2008.
